Sorry, what? Do you think that by being an engineer you have a level of consciousness that commoners can't comprehend? Have you ever dated anyone?

Obviously emergency healthcare services are more of a necessity than transportation, I thought I made that clear. But in what way is transportation nothing but a luxury? How do you get to your job, or to the store, or to the hospital if you

It's a good question but I don't think the characterization of "glorious pioneers holding lanterns in the dark" vs. "monkeys with sticks" is fair.

There's a choice now, and it's arguable a fair choice. But if Uber puts heavily regulated cab companies out of business, the alternative disappears. That raises some issues in emergency situations like bad weather. Transportation

Yeah I think you're right. If anything it's the endless list of deans making $200k that we should be looking at, not the president.

I think this "poor people are dumb animals and if we stopped giving the money they'd go get jobs" attitude is super fucked up.

It's interesting to see the negativity towards the strikers in this topic. Why shouldn't workers be allowed to get together and act as a collective? What's so frightening about the workers having more power?

Really? Do you really think everyone on welfare, or even a majority, are just lazy poor people living off the money earned by the glorious, noble, hard-working, libertarian class? Is it really that simple?

Could you provide a summary or breakdown (with sources?) of the facts about the U.S. government knowing about 9/11 in advance (and allowing it to happen when they could have stopped it or evacuated the buildings, as you're implyin

You're missing the forrest for the trees. Reforming drug laws won't solve racism, classism, or sexism. Anyway, everyone here is in favor of reforming drug laws - this thread of discussion is within the context of talking about the

Selective enforcement of drug laws is only one of many ways that poor and minority communities are abused by the "white supremacist capitalist patriarchy" to quote bell hooks. Legalizing drugs won't magically change anything

He's not supporting the drug war. He's saying that "legalize everything" is not a solution to what is a complicated problem that involves intersectionality.

As unpopular as this comment is, it needs to be said. Privileged, white, upper class libertarians simply don't care how drugs affect poor communities. The free market will sort everything out.

So your solution to the meth "epidemic" (scare quotes yours) is to... legalize meth?

Obviously it's not that simple. We need massive reform in public education and affordability of healthcare (such as rehab facilities) before sane drug laws can possibly be implemented.
