Way too little. Way too late. I fail to see how this could be of interest to anyone, certainly not to anyone not already on the Microsoft stack.

Interesting read. As a developer design is definitely one of my pain-points. Fortunately, my current project is for developers! Lucky me :)

Flex is absolutely Flash. It is simply a library/toolkit for Flash development.

Good stuff. A word of advice, leave the Javascript to the other dude for a while until you're 'seasoned' a little. Ugly Javascript is really ugly :)

The (former?) troll was described as a 'rather likable fellow', not 'really a good person'. If the latter was the case I would agree with you :)

Just learn some markup and CSS stuff, there's always plenty of that to do and most programmers I know would rather be writing code. The nice part about this is that it's pretty easy to pick up, a month or so and you'll be able to at least l

I'm not even sure I follow the premise of this article, perhaps someone can enlighten me. Seems like it's all based on "I don't like Javascript, so we should replace it because no one wants to write it"... whoa hold on a second there profes

I see your point but unfortunately using Haskell doesn't magically also make your database (/etc other bottlenecks) 360x faster, so... Ruby it is :)

I love all this _why stuff on the front page (no sarcasm)! Thank you HN! _why was a truly prolific member of the Ruby community. Assuming he's actually 'gone', he'll be missed and his work appreciated for a long time to come.

MongoDB database files are memory mapped, it has something to do with that... Never looked into it closer, all my servers are running 64-bit distros.

I'm building a bug tracker with MongoDB at the moment. Nothing but good things to say. First incarnation I used CouchDB but found the whole 'must know your queries before-hand' stuff didn't really fit the project. MongoDB is blazing fast wi

Fair enough, I'm just saying that maybe the fact that he's a UI designer is what caused him to approach it in a way that most people don't. I've seen people who know less-than-nothing about interfaces (aka, your average person) get it witho

I generally decide on a framework project-by-project. I started off with Django because I was experienced with Python. The project went ok but I found, as most people seem to, that when the code started growing more organically (often calle

Generally we stick with caching, when that starts to give diminishing returns we add a web server. Database stuff is quite a bit harder, of course, we're been fortunate there so far :)

My point was that you can find the information online or in the manual if you don't get it , which this guy clearly does not. Some people have habits when it comes to devices like this that are hard to break. If you're one of those people,
