I don't follow this at all. Taking time to learn a new and improved way of managing your source code is a deal breaker? These are exactly the people I'd hope to catch by doing phone interviews. "So, what's the last thing you picked up and l

It's still being paranoid. You shouldn't be checking out anything while you have working copy changes unless you really, really mean to. This is why it's not a big deal that it's named the same. Also, git defaults to working on a branch i

Well, this begs the question, why not just let git do all that diff-packing and 99% of the conflict resolution crap for you? As long as you don't mind spending a weekend or a few evenings reading about the new tool and how it works (like an

I've always felt like `git branch` could be the one to switch branches (since it's used to create them too). But `git checkout -b` also creates branches... I think semantically checkout is the right command for this. It's never come up as a

I'm not entirely sure but I believe the idea is that any 301 will cause bit.ly to show the interstitial. So you're right, it does apply to any site on the internet. It's just that you mostly notice it on other shortener services that have

That isn't so easy when there could be 15 redirects between bit.ly and the malware site.

I think that's the point. They check for a redirection and show an interstitial. They've white-listed a few other shortener services (the ones they know are redirecting to actual sites and presumably do their own redirection checks on)... b

Right, but the problem is this scenario: Bit.ly see's your xrl.in and does a request. They find 301 and the location at donationcoder.com. They conclude "this site is ok". Later, the xrl.in url is changed to <malware link>. They are

The iPhone OS is based on Mac OS X which is (Unix, but also) BSD-like. The rest of what you say and it's meaning is correct and unchanged though, of course :)

Agreed. My site went from 0-3 in about 6 months and I did absolutely nothing (and I mean nothing , I just wanted to write so I haven't considered SEO even a little) except write some blog articles.

Considering how often adding an s to http is done (for example, I've only done this once, in gmail, before I saw the 'always use https' setting), I think that this is OK. Still don't think it should be removed, though, just sayin' :)

If you want to discuss the http issue the place is chromium-discuss@chromium.org Personally I don't see what purpose there could possibly be in removing it. The worst part is that it causes ambiguity about what will be copied (if the user w

+1 for HN on iPad. Sometimes you're taking a break from working and just want to catch up on the news a bit. What better place to do so than relaxing on your couch?

I don't get this at all. Why does everyone act like the iPhone should be as 'open' as an OS on your computer? Did everyone forget that when the iPhone shipped you couldn't write apps at all ? You can't write apps in Erlang for your Zune, y

I had one waiting for me bright and early this morning thanks for Amazon. It's going to be hard deciding between Final Fantasy 13 (long time fan... I can't help myself!) and reading this cover-to-cover tonight.
