He didn't say they have a monopoly , he's just saying it feels influenced. Considering the guys who run GitHub are mostly (all?) Mac guys, I don't think that it's a stretch.

Toronto does have a pretty active start-up community. You'd probably want to keep close to downtown.

There are quite a few, as people have said, but to add another perspective -- I'm not concerned that much about money (although a couple years/servers in and it would start to hurt) but more about lock-in. I have to run Windows servers, use

I think you're taking a bit of a leap with what I said. I'm not saying it's only the idea that is important at all, I'd be the first to argue that ideas are actually worth next to nothing by themselves. What I was trying to say was that the

I work mostly on large web apps but that doesn't have much to do with my dislike for IDE's. The reason I don't like them is that I don't want 90% of what it gives me. My 'IDE' is 1 gvim per project and a terminal app with a couple tabs. I c

Perhaps not the documentation of Java itself, but practically every third-party library I've ever tried to use has been a disaster. At least with Ruby or Python I can just dig into the source code, but with so many FactoryFactory's around..

A few major reasons: - The verbosity of Java wears on me very quickly. - I can't stand working in an IDE. - Documentation is abysmal. - I'm not familiar with the ecosystem (so I don't know what to use and when -- What's 'Struts'? What's 'Ti

Being 'interesting tech' is a pretty good reason to experiment/learn something in my book. But besides that: - You get to write JavaScript on your back-end and your front-end. - It's evented (like Twisted, EventMachine, etc) which has prove

I hope I didn't come off sounding rude or anything. Just trying to help :) I think you'd be safest simply not serving the custom scrollbar stuff to mobile browsers, they usually have their own 'custom scrollbars' anyway. Good luck!

Looks great. Scrolling just doesn't work. Seems to be the same on any mobile webkit browser (android, i{Phone,Pad,Pod}).

I like it a lot. The user-facing (content producer, I mean) UI could probably use an iteration or two for polish, and it seems like the resulting content pages are a bit broken on the iPad (custom scrollbars == bad news, I figure), but defi

Does Apple offer free shipping in your area? Rather than wait an unknown timeframe, just order one online - then keep checking with WorstBuy and if they get some in before it ships you can just cancel the order. Worked for me :)

People always seem to forget that this is marketing . They're trying to show what the difference is like , they don't need to be exact.

Of course you are right: There is almost certainly going to be a difference in the magnitude of a 'breach'. I still think this is way out of proportion. Let's use the example of your two circles. Assuming a few/some/most/all of your friends

I fail to see how a friend posting a comment exposing the relationship on facebook is any different than that same friend making the same kind of comment while out for drinks 'IRL'. This has nothing to do with 'social media'.

Agreed. I'd be ok with, after voting, a new link appended to the status line (1 point by so-and-so...) that just undoes your vote. Even if that is permanent (eg, can't vote again).

Is your mom qualified to make the choice? Does she know what impact it will have to install it? Chances are that's a big NO . Implications of this? She will install it because uncle Joe's crappy photo gallery site needs flash, and then she

What is to gain by having a destructive file operation and a non-destructive branch operation have the same name? Why do people seem to feel hurt when people suggest to name them separately? Because they are both the semantically correct

I didn't mean to imply you personally are stupid. Just that 'one' wanting to use git should effectively concede that it gives you the tools to cut off your hands if that's what you're aiming to do. So as to your next point, I don't think

I don't really want my tool to be the kind of paranoid you're describing. I know what I'm doing, I've never lost changes like that, and I don't want git acting like it knows better. The commands are semantically correct, you just need to us

I don't really follow what they're trying to say here. The reason I (we?) don't want flash in the iPhone/etc web browser is because it performs poorly, eats battery and is unstable.

The thing is that it is intuitive if you only take some time to learn the new tool's features and how it is effectively used. Simply treating it like svn wont work. Yes you can 'get by' with some svn-like behaviors, but really dvcs is an
