That was my first GUI, on the Commodore 64 with RAM expansion (don't remember if I had the 128kb or 256kb expansion). I wrote and laid out my user group newsletter on GeoPublish. I felt like I was running a Mac.

Probably the same thing you do in the states if you have high blood pressure: make do with lesser medications, pain killers, lots of liquids, and push through it.

I was school newspaper editor in high school, back in 1973-74. We didn't have a Composer, but one of the other high schools did, and they produced the output we pasted up. I went to their school to see the Composer in action once, it w

On Safari the type is almost too small to read and the page does not reflow when I increase the magnification. Fortunately I can (with some effort) save it to Instapaper to read outside the browser.

The site is fine. Doesn't show up as anything bad on Firefox on Mac. I've been reading the site for months, never had a problem.

I don't use it (or need it) myself, but when I was working for a sporting equipment manufacturer a number of years ago, every salesman had a cellular dongle for their laptop. We had to remind them they had direct ethernet connections w

You're one of the (relatively) few who found the iPad useful for getting actual work done. There are others like you, just not that many. (I tried and failed to make the iPad + Magic Keyboard my only machine.)

Either I've gotten so used to lagginess on the Kobo that I don't notice it anymore, or it no longer is a problem. It seems to turn pages just fine, which is the only place I'm concerned about performance. I've got a Clar

Most, if not all, ebook stores have "issues" with DRM because publishers demand it (and authors too often simply go along with it). Amazon and Kobo (and other ebook stores as well) let authors of self-published books decide whethe

Glad to have gotten off Kindle and onto Kobo years ago. Enshittification continues on. Now, we just have to wait for the publishers to put the screws to Rakuten...

This may seem like a stupid question...but what about when it was cloudy? Can I assume the BFF was flying above the clouds most (or all) of the time?

The B-52 is one of my favorite aircraft, and the one at the Museum of Flight is an absolute beast -- I never thought it was small, but it's still bigger than I expected.

One only needs to read current medieval historians like Eleanor Janega (just to name one who's easily accessible) to know that this view of history as been pretty thoroughly debunked. The basis from which he or she argues is outdated.

I moved to Kobo a couple of years ago, as it started getting harder and harder to add de-DRM'd books I'd bought from other sellers to the device. It was easier to just abandon Kindle as an ereader. I'm really happy with Kobo

Is one picture of a mountain derivative of another? Are two pictures of a specific human being derivative? No, they are individual creations, even if made using the same camera by the same photographer. Each is an individual work of art, th

The only coffee we keep around is Walmart's 100% Columbian Arabica instant, a freeze-dried coffee that tastes great and, despite recent rises in price, is under $10 for a 7 oz. jar. I sometimes mix it with a tablespoon of Stephen'

KOReader works just as easily, and just as well, on my much newer Kobo Clara BW. I'm not unhappy with the built-in reader software, but keep KOReader installed just in case I want or need it.

I love _The Soul Of A New Machine_. It was one of the books that got me started loving computer history (the other being Steven Levy's _Hackers,_ which I read afterward). A truly great writer.

I like my Apple Watch loads. Yes, it tells me the time and the date. And the weather. It has a timer. (It can't make a call by itself.) It will tell me if I have AFIB. I'm getting older -- it will detect a fall, or a car wreck. An

When I do use a mouse, I use a Logitech Lift because horizontal grip mice are uncomfortable, but now that I've retired and 99% of my time is on my MacBook Air, it's all trackpad, and my hands don't seem to mind it.
