I've kept a file called "ventures.rtf" since 2007. Quite simply, it has every business idea I've had that's worth writing down. Every year or so I go through and delete the stupid ideas. To say this has become the most valuable document in

One of the biggest problems I see on SO is repliers tell the OP they are "doing it wrong" and not answering the OP's question. Typically you'll see some smartass reply with, "Why would you want to do that? You're doing it wrong. Do it this

The title says to "continue working on your bad idea" but the article is really about pivoting. Pivoting is not the same as continuing to work on your bad idea. Pivoting is about YOU continuing to work, and leaving the bad parts of your bad

Your practice engine idea is really smart, but it isn't at all immediately apparent upon visiting the site. At first, your website looks like any "portfolio site" (deviant art, dribble, etc). To make the practice engine the focus of the web

When you pay by the project (whether 100% upfront, 50% down / 50% on completion, or by the milestone), there is always a conflict of interest between what the contractor wants and what you want. The contractor wants to complete the job wi

I don't want to pick on Allan Odgaard, but I think the way he's handled the TM2 project is pretty bad. Allen is a great guy and I love TM. However, here are some facts. TM2 has taken SIX YEARS. It was "90% done" 2009. This is a living, br

I don't know what your budget is, but $8,000 is not a lot. I've managed dozens of software projects and I would never trust ANYONE who says they'll build ANYTHING for $8,000. Very, very few successful websites, rails sites, iPhone apps, or
