I don't have an exact address. I spoke with Jon (of Zencoder), he said it was somewhere in the Santa Cruz mountains. Such a place is probably a little too remote for most people (it was a 30 minute or more drive to YC)

The "regret not getting to know each other" is definitely something that I've heard from recent YC alumni. As for weekly gatherings--I think that might be a bit distracting for the teams there, but I can see occasional gatherings being valu

I think a 6 month contract isn't too bad, when you consider that it's basically: 1 month for moving in before YC starts 3 months for YC 2 months for wrapping things up and finding a new place and moving

Other YC alumni that I spoke with felt the same way, which is a big part of why the final location will probably be in or near Mountain View.

If it ends up being really competitive (and we have more people than can fit comfortably in one house), then we can do two or more. I have a number of places that I'm looking at already, so I'm pretty sure we won't end up with a situation

I haven't fully decided--it's not going to be free, for sure. Probably, people will pay me and I will pay the landlord, since that seems more convenient, but I could easily be convinced to just have people pay directly instead. As I said o

Yay! I've had this pain for years now, I'm glad someone is finally addressing it. You need a lot more features (the most important being a decent IDE or editor integration with either emacs or something) before I'll use it, but, I'll defi

I don't get this. I did this myself with an app called "Camera" already. When I go get my hair cut in a few days, I'm just going to say "Make it like this"

Why not make the language at least very similar to an existing language? Sure, even if it isnt EXACTLY the same, it at least has a number of people that already write in it, editors that deal with it correctly, etc. Plus you can use genera

I think this is a great idea. Good luck with it! I'd also like to see it combined in some way with that other startup that makes "writable apis" for the whole internet

My statement would still be true in that case. You would just be proposing a shortcut because "rationally consider how to persuade" would be a constant function that always returned "apply raw social power". However, as can be pretty clear

I'd be interested in this--I tried building something like it a long time ago, but it's a very difficult problem.

Instead of emotionally arguing with someone, you should rationally consider how to persuade the person, and whether it is worth it. That's a much better suggestion than "doing nothing" as suggested in this pointless flame-bait article* *pl

This seems useful where you'd need a really quick, easy part of the problem to be parallelized. For entire multi-threaded applications, maybe something like the multithreading library would be more useful? http://docs.python.org/library/m

How is groupon doing everything wrong? That doesnt make sense. Responding to the points in order: 1. "No Customization" -> I've certainly never seen a rule saying that everything needs customization. If anything, the advice for sta

Kind of inflammatory post that boils down to one reason--there's no point in having a bug tracking system if you're not going to address the bugs. I disagree with this article. Especially if you're open source, you gain a lot by having a b

I definitely feel this too. I routinely have around 50 to 100 tabs open. This USED to be perfectly fine--no crashes, everything was snappy. Now firefox is crashing sometimes more than once per day on me. I use noscript to prevent anythin

Killer feature for me--if you made this thing automatically extract the text from talks, I would be willing to pay for it. I love talks but hate having to wait through the whole thing to get all the information.

This does not seem very useful to me. I read my feeds by using Google Reader with Firefox, and middle-mouse clicking on any link that I want to actually read. By the time I've opened a few tabs this way, the first of them has loaded. In f
