This is the real issue. There are two reasons why I don't think there are many target customers: 1. Most computationally intensive tasks require a bunch of supporting software/data. There are few tasks that can be easily reduced to a few

Not bad, but perhaps a little biased: "I sell design for a living. ... How Much Design Should You Buy? Easy peasy. Buy as much as you can within your budget."

It's unfair to use your public school costs as evidence because they are not comparable to his numbers. Here are the numbers across the board for all college students [1]: Median: $9K Mean: $26K Also, if we were to put opportunity cost

I laughed when I read this: "I just counted. I have 17 tabs currently open" Am I the only person that sometimes has literally hundreds of tabs open? I love tabkit, but a hundred or two tabs seems to be the limit with that approach. I'm de

The title of this article is completely misleading. Please don't submit titles like that?

Isn't this pretty obvious? Also, it's clearly not the absences causing people to fail to graduate. Just think about the people you know who skipped classes and days of school in 9th grade...

This looks pretty useful. A few feature requests: - Import from delicious, to help get people started. - An option to automatically add the tags from delicious as part of the text that you search, because many websites do not contain suffi

To second this, my martial arts instructor used to be a developer, and quit to start doing physical therapy. He loves it and is 100% glad that he changed. So, just do what you're passionate about, and it will work out. Nothing beats doing

If you force yourself to eat more of something, you will grow to like it. I've heard this before, and I've definitely noticed it with myself, my friends, and my family, but I could not find a scientific article to back it up (though I didn

Sorry, but I'm not sure why I wouldn't just use KeePass? KeePass is both free and open source: http://keepass.info/

Looks nice, but I'm a little confused. Why would I want to use this over something like Django?

In the actual paper, they clearly state that their predictions for the opening weekend are based ONLY on the tweets that occur BEFORE the actual release. But I generally agree with you--prediction markets will be useful even months ahead o

This is the case for me too. I've been using it continually since that story. I also really love the "leveling up" and quest systems, it's such a fun way to explore the site when I'm bored.

In the average case, couldn't you just randomly generate a pretty small key, encrypt the information, then throw the key away? Then you could start the process of randomly guessing at the key, and eventually you'd figure it out again. Jus

It's neat but I'd rather make a link to an IRC room via mibbit. That way people can get to the chatroom with other clients too.

This is great. It looks like something I've always wanted, but never realized until now--a much more pleasant way to read text on a computer.

Basically, if after signing the agreement and being part of the program, if your company decides that it needs to go somewhere else and have no presence in PA within the next few years, you have to give back the $25K. That's it. It's not t

Yep, that's the one downside. It's the price you pay for keeping significantly more equity (AlphaLab only takes 3%) in exchange for more funding ($25K). Pittsburgh's a great place to do a startup though. It's a great city, and really chea

Nope, but I'm glad that it worked out the way that it did. AlphaLab has been a really great program so far, and the benefits of YCombinator over AlphaLab (ie, exposure to Silicon Valley folk) are not really that important to us. Pittsburg

We applied to both YC and AlphaLab last year. We ended up being a part of AlphaLab, and I'm so glad that we did. It's been a great experience so far--lots of great advisors and contacts (who knew that Pittsburgh had so many tech companies

I've always loved these games. You have a nice start and I'd love to see more. Email me if you feel like it, maybe I can help somehow (I'm pretty busy with work though, so no promises)
