Intel is making the necessary steps to stay relevant as we see smaller lower power devices become the norm. Ultrabooks (and their silly netbook cousins of the past) are merely stepping stones on the path to more embedded, power sipping dev

This seems terribly overblown. Do people forget the fact that Darpa finances things like the Darpa Challenge every year? And lets not forget that the Internet itself was once simply ARPANET. Also that really cool internet challenge where g

I suppose you might not want to give up your secrets, but anyone have a good place to source raspberry pis from in the US? Everytime I see cool projects like this on HN I go to try to find some and get disheartened by month or 2 ship times.

I want to hope that everyone who grew up using the internet or take part in it now will not fall prey to dirty tactics like those. It is probably foolish, but perhaps if people realize that they are in the same boat of saying/writing/d

oh definitely agreed. Smear tactics/hit ads are nothing new, but this is (I believe) our first taste of this form of it in the future. We have all seen attack ads on TV and in print, but this is the first time I have seen a website pulling

Is this the first taste of the future of politics? Smear websites dredging up every silly / facetious / dumb comment someone has ever made? The smear site is linked to in the article and can be found: http://www.colleensworld.com/ The who

Awesome well thought out article. Agree on many points. Mike Masnick (of www.techdirt.com) has been blogging about very similar models for years now. The fundamental point he gets at is that you want to 'Connect with Fans' more than anythin

I don't know why you are getting downvoted: you are absolutely correct. You can't just walk away and hope the problem will go away.

You said it yourself: "it didn't stop me from pursuing my own education". We do know that it is stopping women/minorities from pursuing engineering programs/jobs by way of their male dominated nature.

if you reference Title 17 504(c) 1 and 2 then you will see that the damages for willful infringement are up to $150,000 per work and otherwise set between $750 - $30000 per work. These damages are 'statutory'. This means they are unrelated

Have you used the MDN? It's hosted by Mozilla but it's an open wiki. Almost any bug or oddity in a browser will likely be listed. There are pages for essentially every extension for most browsers as well. Webkit's extensions live at https:

Oh I agree, my point was more "the system is faulty". I just don't think any sort of band-aid (like a fine for example) is the real solution. I think the solution is to redo the law.

One of Linus's main points is that this is a layer problem. Who cares if things get normalized in your Finder dialogs or other UX elements? But if something is being programmatically done to the filesystem itself (ie, by git via a write) it

The zdnet site is just... awful. That said, the review was fairly light on content. A lot of 'almost' and 'mostly' but no actual discussion as to what the gaps are! Plus for an article setting this up to be a comparison to the air... there
