Anyone here have any thoughts on AppEngine vs Heroku? I use AppEngine for my experimental projects because I can get a simple data model and some handlers running in minutes and a (supposedly automatically scalable) useful backend up in les

I thought that was funny wording too. I wonder if the person whose money was "forfeited" finds the sharing to be equitable.

I love the site, but fyi the teardowns are hard to work with on mobile (android chrome nexus5). It jumps around when I hit next, the icons are very small and require a zoom each time, touch gestures on the images do seemingly random things

I'm seriously bummed. I don't trust Facebook and by extension, Zuckerberg. But what do we lose by supporting this move? He's made charitable efforts at improving the world before, and making an announcement puts pressure to f

Yeah, I would guess that the huge overhead is still more efficient given how poorly some would use the money, but that's just a hunch. I have nothing to back that up (and would love any argument on either side of that)

Awesome, a real counter argument. I can't believe that worked. Hacker news rocks. Edit: Seriously I'm shocked. I wrote in hopes of getting a good response and figured this was the best chance, but the political environment lately

The idea of handing out cash has become popular lately but I'm skeptical. Does anyone have an argument why handing them cash would be better than paying for needs? It seems to me (less restrictive) housing subsidies, food stamps for ev

I agree with you, it does look like insecurity. But just for clarification: sometimes it was my fault. And when it wasn't and the partner was a beginner, I pretended it was my fault so that the beginner wouldn't feel bad.

This might get a negative response, but let me present a contrarian view: apologies aren't always wise, even when you screw up and feel bad about it. To explain with an example: I learned to dance salsa a few years ago. I wasn't

I mostly agree. Although I'd say it's radically tolerant in some ways and very intolerant in others. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that most inhabitants are very tolerant and a few extremists are not.

It might not be obvious right away, but San Francisco is really tolerant and open minded. That picture looks like yet another hate rally targeting a specific demographic, but it's really a welcoming party for new arrivals to the city.
