For sure, not something I'd feel comfortable deploying either. The `www` subdomain can certainly be removed at least, I'm fairly certain. Though I would definitely err on the side of caution rolling something like this out since i

Nice writeup! On the scheme, I'm not sure `https` is needed, at least when scanning with the iphone camera. Parsing seems to be based on the TLD and potentially subdomains, e.g., `example.com` will parse as an address but lesser-known

Nice post, learned new things about QR codes. I noticed in the wild when doing check-ins, unreliable QR codes have been due to glossy paper and/or their placement, either being too high or low causing distortion. https://dat

I seriously doubt marketing and advertising departments will care about standards, if they would even notice. The industry can't even manage with web standards, imagine trying to get scummy tracking companies to comply. IMO it's n

I define a bad actor here as software that makes non-consensual network connections. Agree on the software installs, and the risks attached. Modern OSes sandbox software wrt IO permissions, IMO we should be doing that sandboxing at the netw

Bad-actors would ignore it wholesale anyway, so this at best gives one a false sense of privacy. It would probably be better _not_ to have it, since people won't be misguided into thinking they're not being tracked. An actual effe

You're comparing web tools/browsers to an offline audio editor. Though I agree it's a PR disaster—people are upset, I don't think folks can be reasoned with since it's partly a backlash of yet another small communit

Yeah maybe by modern software which doesn't respect the user's privacy and resource usage it's nothing to worry about. I'd say this is a regression, and adding all that networking code makes it easier for them to push it

Pretty laughable they have to post even more walls of text to convince folks that it's okay for an _offline_ application to spy on you. Frankly, this would have probably been tolerated or largely ignored if there wasn't a long his

Those extra steps can be valuable, since you'll have to work to even find the right code to copy/paste, and the context which it's in can teach you something. Even something as simple as copying from the docs, it's usual

I don't think people generally think the internet as a network was wasting energy. I tend to think it's mainly the mass amount of commoditised hardware that's the problem, especially if it's thrown away and not recycled,
