Is Sixel highly inefficient? It's palettized, and encodes a 6b value in an 8b code. It'd be nice if terms supported "inline PPM"; those are (on average) only somewhat larger than their equivalent BMP. (Worst case is 2x,

We must seize the initiative for elaborating on the insufficiency of the science of mnemonics! It is only in the vein of such species of silliness that we can discover how truly weird and foreign our feisty English orthography is for lingui

Does it require steel rebar or could you use glass rebar? I think most homes (that are "boxes") have concrete in compression, and not tension. That means the structural considerations for rebar are a lot lower. I think, though

There's a lot of awful charities out there. I've used " https://www.charitynavigator.org " in the past to determine which charities are worth giving to, or not. However, I've personally interacted with

One way to think of this: have the computer learn how to translate between any two languages, i.e., learn how to "build translators", and then attempt to translate between the unknown language and every other language.

I think you're equating "mathematician" with "Fields-medallist-adjacent"? As such, I think you'd need to equate such a mathematician to the list of "greatest of all time" in basketball, who are still

This doesn't sound right? I thought the value of the collateral had no bearing on the loan, except as a condition for the lender to call the loan if the collateral loses too much value?

Even better is when you have tiny (<64) arrays of small numbers (<256) is just to use an array and write down the answer ; integers that are small enough self-hash in a natural order, with very little stack pressure — certainly a lot

Here's my thought: most employees are quite risk averse, and businesses have been able to take advantage of that in order to negotiate better for wages (better=lower wages). The pandemic essentially forced people into being more comfor

In the context I'm thinking of, I have fairly sizable arrays -- up to 512 bytes; usually, only the first few bytes are used (for state tracking); an `int` tells me the high-water mark so the data is only read after being written. The a

I hope it's not mandatory. I'd much prefer static analysis to tell me of use-before-acquire errors: I have a number of hot-inner-loops where initialization nukes performance.

Yes: touching any header file causes a full rebuild. Remember that ccache is "under the hood" doing memoization. So, a clean rebuild could still hit ccache, whereas a scratch build starts from an emoty ccache.

I skimmed the paper. I use Make, extensively, but in a way I generally don’t see in the wild (for C/++): 1. I convert all paths to abspaths; 2. All intermediate products go into a temp dir; 3. All recipes are functions; 4. The set of o

My great-great grandfather argued this exact point to my dad in the late '50s: the buildings in Switzerland (and, later, Indiana) that "stood the test of time" were built to a different (far more expensive) standard.

Support for 16/32b and fp-formats would've been nice -- the compressor is actually orthogonal to the bit width of the channels. Custom fp-compression usually just unvolves moving the sign bit into the LSB, and delta encoding the m
