I always thought that all govt processes — high to low — should have an API for filing paperwork, with a publically available "wirk queue" that anyone could query. The govt would be mandated to use its own APIs, and motion in the

I also found Win16/32 with "the giant switch statement" easy to program & reason about. Once you weapped your head around how to minimize the rdraw area, there wasn't much that could wrong. OTOH, it was a really tedi

I can't agree with you more. I switched to Python's logger off of my janky thing about 6 months ago, and I'm hating every second of it. I still have no clue how to turn it on, turn it off, get it to fork output (stdout, stder

I seitched to high volume, low weight, and it has been a game changer. Lifting heavy is just a way to destroy joints and get injuries. One sude effect is hypertrophy — I've added 2cm to my arms, tone is way better, and I don't hu

Why not a much shorter list with adjectives? I think the last time I looked at this, a few disjoint lists of 256 words, plus a few 16 word adjective lists gets down to ~1m accuracy. Dropping adjectives just reduces accuracy. > big red pl

I have a service tech for appliances. I just ask him what I should buy. He usually has suggestions from all the cost-ranges. Sometimes, I buy used through him (built-in fridge); sometimes I buy new. Since I had the opportunity to buy a bunc

Don't worry, some of us are still fighting for the gloriously base-2 US customary system; base-10 is only for people who don't float. And the 30cm foot.

This reminds me of phase-problem from protein crystallograpy (PX). I'm 15+ years away from that space, so I have no idea what the modern solution space looks like, but it seems like there's a corollary between reverse-AD-over-SDFs

In the US, IP rights are not a natural right. Instead, they are a limited monopoly granted by the people through their agent (the US government) to inventors and authors. The problem is that there are bad actors "patent trolls"

If IP is real property, it should be taxed. The tax system I like for IP works for hire is this: each year you owe 1/4% * N (where N is the age of the IP) in taxes on the IP. Whatever you pay, the "public" (anyone/ever
