“HPC engineering” and “Optimizing LLM training” are similar. It’s about profiling, performance modeling, finding bottlenecks, rewriting what’s needed, etc. Lots of overlap, and people from more traditional HPC doing it too. Obviously if you

Lots of people in prison/jail are not convicted though, but merely awaiting trial. The 13th amendment only applies to "duly convicted" people.

In (basic) queue theory, at equilibrium (average input rate = average output rate), the length of the queue is proportional to the variance in the input rate. Make that what you want :D

Is there a web UI ? If yes - I guess an attacker can just send "bad" JS to the client and steal the master password no? Or inject a malicious update. Most people probably have auto updates?

I think the idea is that if you use the official client, there is “no risk” because everything is encrypted client side anyway. In theory.

C++ (especially template heavy with lots of headers and so on) is certainly not fast to compile. But 2 hours that's crazy. What sort of codebase and on what kind of machine? A 128 cores threadripper is a great workstation to compile C+

That’s not true. You might be confusing the H1B lottery and the Green card cap per country. The two are barely related.

It's much much harder today than it ever was in the past, see https://redbus2us.com/h1b-visa-cap-reach-dates-history-graph... FY 2008/2009 were indeed a bit of outliers at the time, but since 2014/2015 it

Blockchain means there is also a consensus mechanism. That’s the whole point: resolving conflicts. Git is basically a Merkel Tree, but not a blockchain.

Yes. But it still has strict non-immigrant intent. So you can't travel on O or renew your O-associated work authorization while your I-485 is pending. H-1B doesn't have those restrictions because it's dual-intent.

"Much easier" is kind of an overstatement. The odds in the H1B lottery still suck. The FY2023 season saw a record number of applicants https://redbus2us.com/uscis-received-484k-h1b-registrations-... Also O visas a

Hard/impossible to respond. Every workload is different. It can be mostly compute bound (Linpack), communication bound, a mix, very latency sensitive, etc. Imho, it just depends on the workflow and we should probably use multiple metri

A PhD is a full-time job, time-wise. I'm not sure how _really_ feasible a part-time PhD + part-time job really is. Maybe for some, but most likely not for most imho. Agreed that it would help financially though.
