They think that is the thing Americans are going to get offended about? Come on, now. We're WAY crazier than that.

These things are so stupid. But... they keep bored B-list tech journalists busy, so that's something.

Probably not.

I have a funny story about this plugin. The team I was working on was developing a new product with the word 'cloud' in the name. We were deploying database changes to facilitate the new product. This was a long time ago, and th

Neat. I'll try to remember that the next time I need to work with Lua.

This doesn't appear to really do anything to address the one big problem I've had with using Lua for larger applications. Does GopherLua still have global-by-default variables?

The sad part is that it's not just a hardware problem. While most PC laptops have really terrible trackpad hardware, some do have pretty decent hardware. It's just that the software is still absolutely terrible. You can run

When done right, they're wonderful. When done wrong, you end up creating custom keybindings to augment your workflow and lug a mouse around when that doesn't cut it. I've never seen a PC laptop do it right.

I would recommend sticking to software-based systems on a modern computer, then. Virtual machines are really fun for this. The home computers of the 80s were anything but simple. They were very sophisticated, and the designs of those sy

What is it that you want to do with this computer? Are you just looking to tinker?

The poor App ecosystem was a direct result of poor timing. There isn't anything they could have done differently in mid 2010 to improve on that.

Timing. They waited too long to enter the market, and with two well-established platforms, there just wasn't room for a third, no matter how good it was.

All it means is that counties aren't a useful way to think about the country, politically. They're arbitrary plots of land.

This is already a thing in lower-power applications. Thermals become an issue in higher-power applications.

You are aware that the standard library is a big part of the C specification, right?

Fair enough. But I'd also like to point out that just because something is normal, doesn't make it right. If you think that it's okay for corporations to collect information on non-users in the way that Facebook does, then I

The only kind of programming language that is ever "finished" are ones that nobody uses.

Then maybe he should handle Jai like he handles his games. Don't talk about it until it's almost ready to go.

If that's all that he did, then I'd have no concerns. He likes to talk down other up-coming programming languages, too. But they've got something his language doesn't.

Well, that's fine, then. Many of them do eventually create something useful later. Johnathan Blow is a game designer, though.

I'd be okay if he never spoke about it as the next big thing in programming with no intention of releasing it for public criticism. It's 100% okay to have private, in-house tools.

I'd be 100% okay with that. That's not all he's doing, though.

I'd even take a closed-source compiler. The problem is that, ultimately, he's effectively throwing rocks from a glass house, but he denies us the rocks to throw back. I just can't take him seriously.

And rightfully so. In spite of all of the theory going into those languages, the one thing they're all missing is practice.

Nope. I'm hoping one day that they do. I don't pay attention to Jai anymore, and I'm hoping someone hits me with a link.

The issue is that he uses that platform to criticize other languages. That's my root problem, here. If all he did was write code, then nobody would care.

If he doesn't want to accept criticism then why is he streaming about it?
