My problem is really not the startup/loading time, but the regular stutters and long latency for input and commands. I need my editor to "feel" really smooth and instant during editing. Emacs just never gives me that experien

Every time I try Emacs I get annoyed by it's slowness and go back to vim and VS Code. This might entice me to build it and try out my Emacs Doom setup again.

Very well written post and upstream work is always appreciated. I also really like monorepos, but Git and GitHub really don't work well at all for them. On the Git side there is no way to clone only parts of a repo or to limit access b

I sometimes do infrastructure consulting. One of the first questions I ask is if they have at least one fully independent, full/incremental off-site backup that can't be corrupted from the main infrastructure, and if they have eve

Always remember: numbers without context are meaningless. Google had 180bn revenue in 2020. In normal circumstances , even with much more WFH, they'd still pay for regular company get togethers. They'd pay for more satellite offi

Which makes them one of relatively few companies in this space that would publicly expose CIA ops. It's definitely reasonable to be sceptical here, but that goes both ways.

It's cheap marketing. You are one of relatively few people regularly trying to (ab)use Hackernews comments for promoting your own product. If you want to show how privacy friendly you are, write a blog post about it and try to get it u

Your constant promotion of Sourcehut on unrelated topics really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and turns me off wanting to use the service. It comes off as highly unprofessional.

I tried the same thing. The tool doesn't handle the direct link, it just gives information for about.gitlab.com again.

Thanks for sharing this! If the numbers hold true, you could actually use a separate database for each test, which could be hugely beneficial. It's way to easy to cause some unintended interaction between tests if sharing a db. On the

Some runtimes like wasmtime support AOT compilation artifacts that can be loaded. But in general you can't "just compile" Webassembly, because you need a runtime. There is a C project that can compile an executable that inclu

Is sublicensing and relicensing the same thing? Sublicensing to AGPL should definitely be OK, but does that mean they can just relicense all contributed code and remove all mentions of Apache2? Seems doubtful to me. This GNU article [1] exp
