I think you can trust the code of both those worlds exactly the same, not at all. I’ve seen GPT 3 and 4 hallucinate the most amazing commentary about their own output. Maybe we will get dependable, out of process, guidance at some point abo

Few years, yes. I’m with you “the change is coming” but we still need to transfer millions of tokens in and out to cater for context and out of repo intricacies.

Token cap will probably be the biggest problem here. After validation. After getting the changes to disk, documented, actually compiling, etc… But the biggest problem is that transferring the nuance that is external to the code base is typi

Loved this. I think there are many more characteristic cases of programmer-muggle “lost in translation”. On a tangent, > Can you help with my printer? Related Ask HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35165560

On the flip side, I am having a great time charging enterprises exorbitant hourly rates to come in and help them fix their crappy crud programms. But I still don’t know if I am thrilled by the prospect of being called in to make their monke

I think this article is a great example of the one key shortcoming that Ai based code generation has. Even a seasoned developer will fail to describe the intricate details and context of what they are trying to do. Non developers constantly

Creativity and innovation didn't ever stop. Its only words and concepts and we keep inventing new ones constantly. We also imbue new meaning to words and concepts over time.

Hang on it is 2023 and there still isn't a global standard on printing interfaces? I thought all printer manufacturers had decided to use that CUPS thing more than a decade ago?

I'm okay with that and really do not care whether the printer uses toner or ink to produce pages with content in them. What I care about is that I don't want it to need an uplink to the Internet in order to do so.

Indeed they do but if you look at the product range they offer its still in the "we help you run your server" territory, not in the "this is a service that eliminates Component X of your architecture". I really like the

GPT-4 is really, really impressive! But however we spin it, ChatGPT still has a significant context issue. Sure the increased input token max for GPT4 does help but when you think about the context we draw on in out typical life interaction

I think what Hetzner have done is just specialise in doing one thing really really well and that is their product, they run servers. They don’t offer any of the „cloudy“ vendor lock in things like functions, DBaaS, blah blah but if you want

I am very much with you on this but I think the biggest hurdle in this theory is that introducing such regulation would create a de-facto hostile innovation environment in that jurisdiction. And no regulator will lightheartedly put themselv

I guess at some point most of us will have to yell at clouds. Whether that changes anything or not remains debatable. I think the biggest challenge we have today is that building on SaaS and huge dependency charts is very attractive to some

This is what maddens me the most about the TradFi space. Everything is supposedly regulated but in the end the b2c companies will keep doing whatever they want. At least serious DeFi gives you a quantum of sovereignty! Sure many will say: “

Just keep in mind that actually keeping that 1.5x or even 10x performance boost you need to apply these consistently to a laaarge code base (performance critical apps tend to be this). This means that in 2-3 months you end up with a codebas
