You cant creat stuff with complex internal structures in one piece with a lathe and cnc, most of those end up being cast and then finished on the cnc mill, 3d printers allow that.

Most 3d printers which also use gcode, have an sdcard slot. Load your gcode file onto the sdcard, plug it into the printer and print from there. You dont need a computer connected at all, so nothing to go to sleep.

OpenSCAD can generate either stl or wavefront obj (and several other formats), there are a lot of trivialy integratable tools that can go from there to gcode. Slic3r and CuraEngine to name but two.
