If you've looked at the transaction fees lately, you can definitely pay to power an American house for 1 month too (that is, assuming unreasonably that the house was powered at the same cost that most bitcoin miners pay for power: ~$0.

I was thinking about it the other day when reading the original article, and this was the only plausible (and defensible) cause for it not being addressed: When GTA online was released 7 years ago in 2013, the list of DLC items was probably

I immediately thought of Sphinx when I saw MeiliSearch... it's uncanny how the use case and implementation semantics haven't changed much in 15 years. The beauty of pointing it to your mysql tables and getting fulltext-via-api on

Imagine trying to make the argument that forcing your developers/clients to send all their telemetry on fixed/rigid schemas to make it immediately queryable is quicker than updating 1 line of an etl script on the data warehouse si

Anyone accepting freeform objects into a single ES index knows the pain of field type collisions But, most of the time, it "just works". Hearing these argument about rigid schemas saving time tells me that nobody has had to suppor

Agreed here. More and more data is semi structured and can benefit from ES (or mongo) making it easily exploitable. It's a big part of why logstash and elastic came to be. One of the most beautiful use cases I've ever seen for el

I think it's an unfair comparison, notably because: 1) Clickhouse is rigid-schema + append-only - you can't simply dump semi-structured data (csv/json/documents) into it and worry about schema (index definition) + queryi

Believe it or not, $50 is great for a "self service" company like this. No enterprise sales teams pushing complicated billing or contracts, just customers (mostly devs/startups) choosing what they need without endless upsell

I'm really happy to see Ben and Moisey get this far. They are both extremely competent sysadmins and system architects too. They retained a lot of equity as well - good to see.

There is some confusion. This is revshare of what the shopify partner bills the shopify store owner. It's identical to apple charging developers a revshare of payments billed through the app store. Not saying it's good here, just

I think you would still need to interpret the output outside of the pim so it wouldn't be an on-dimm or universal system by any means. It might open the door to more sexy error correction or caching.

Probably closer to this than 2.5kw. 2.5kw on a decently modern heat pump should be providing 25k btu. About enough to heat a 2000sqft house ~50f over ambient.

Would be quite inefficient for municipalities to have plows and salt/sand spreaders sitting around for a decade not being used. Similarly for garages and distributors to carry winter tires.

My home is majority open concept on 2 of 3 floors with high ceilings and even with 3 kids I can say it's more appealing than those 1-room-per-100sqft 80s/90s layouts. Turns out kids are people too and enjoy nice spaces just the s

Majority of the difference between consumption and generation is imported. ERCOT is operating at 52,000MW right now, with 37,600 of it being generated on-grid.

I always wondered this too and it seems odd, but, over the last 5 years I'm noticing a trend of developers using their macbooks/ultrabooks as primary and they are used to that format and look for it in a workstation/docked ke
