That's a poor summary of the article you link, given that it says vegan diets are almost twice as efficient as the standard American diet. (It just also says that low-meat diets are even more efficient in terms of land use.)

If you ever get the chance, do try playing with a thermal camera! It gives you a whole new appreciation for the great that flows around us that I never was able to grasp from a physics class. You can actually see footprints and even can wri

You've confused the two companies that the parent was talking about. The company that wanted diversity had a contact with the 'mystery' company that has a search engine.

Frankly I don't know what you are trying to say, given that whatever that is, it's not relevant to the sexual predator scenario. The only thing I can think of is that you are suggesting rules to cover one's ass to prevent b

I still strongly disagree with what you are saying. First, if you were not their manager, then little of this should change. (Just don't slap bums at all.) Secondly, your suggestion places the problem at "men and women are alone i

I strongly agree with you, but I suspect this is a confusion due to the changing of the URL (see dang's post). The idea that my fellow men might be barely controlling their urge to sexual assault any woman they have power over is - I h

In terms of social media, yes, it's the only place that will tell me that my high school friend is getting married. And to a large extent it's the only thing I will ever find that out from, depending on who we are talking about. I

I'm in the same boat as you, but this just means you should check Facebook less. Obviously not good for Facebook, but it seems great for us.

But ... why? You can read political and tech news anywhere why read it on Facebook? The only thing I want to see on Facebook are the things I can't see elsewhere which are: personal updates and local events.

That's not entirely what they mean either, because then every irrational number is "close" to a rational (just take its decimal expansion out to 200 digits - that's rational and very close to the irrational number). Yo

Well, that's a concern (for the profitability of the casino) but isn't what I was replying to. The parent post was suggesting that there could be objects designed to look like guns to this system. I have a hard time imagining wh

Why is that a concern? Obviously you can fool the system into thinking you have a gun, but I don't think casino's will have any qualms in banning fake-guns.

Nike has been doing the "costumers standing in lines to buy their product" thing for longer than Supreme has existed. Their basketball shoe line has been massively cultish since at least Michael Jordan.

I love Aaronson's book but it's not "gentle-for-newbies". Not because it's not gentle! It just explicitly skips over a lot of the material. You're expected to already know about quantum computing since he doesn

I think it's false to equate determinants with "determinants computed by cofactor expansion". One can compute determinants efficiently through Gauss elimination, too.

Yes, the abstract. One sentence cites a result suggesting that 8895 IU/d is necessary to reach >= 50nmol/L and the next another that 6201 IU/d is necessary to reach 75 nmol/L. Clearly these aren't compatible to e

Uh, you should be careful too! There's some error in what you wrote too. Is that nmol/L that you mean?

Sorry I still don't understand. They require g to be surjective. Edit: in their paper they call it f_theta and it's explicitly not surjective. Dunno why their writeup is so confused.

I don't see how any choice of a function g(theta) could have the property they desire, ie could eliminate R(g(theta)). Can anyone explain?
