Surely five minutes spent learning a debugger isn't really in the spirit of the rest of the post. It should be more like "read the entire man page of the debugger and try some of it out." Five minutes is only enough to learn

Anyone have a better article addressing the question in the title? This one felt more like a grab bag of basic terminology with a little bit of history thrown in - less how they work and more of how to compare specs of related cards. As an

Smart. Ease of payment through the app you're already using is a big value added here though.

I don't think any search for life on other planets begins with looking for and sequencing DNA so the time between getting a false positive and disconfirming it could be a decade or more and be extremely costly to send unneeded equipmen

I think the meaning was in terms of a time keeping device not as a value store. The cheapest Walmart watch keeps time significantly better than the most expensive mechanic watch and many will last years of use.

I use it for the fact that it's popular, of course. Worse than the fact that your balance stays in Venmo is that if you make a transaction larger than your balance, it gets paid exclusively from your bank account and doesn't clear

Absolutely agree and notice a slight pattern with fantasy novels starting with overdone "spooky monster in the woods" setting before getting into anything interesting (like characters and plot). The opening to Game of Thrones is t

Please explain why you think that! You literally just see her sitting on a tube, fall over while shrieking and then start drowning because she probably swallowed water the wrong way while shrieking and falling into the water. At that point,

Let me be clear: - Once you start drowning, you don't look like a good swimmer no matter if you're Phelps or not - Videos selected specifically to have people who start drowning in them will show people at their absolute worst swi

On what basis do you assume they are non-swimmers? The video doesn't show them swimming - well sure they were in a tube of course it doesn't show them swimming. Just because you can swim fine doesn't mean you will do so when

Agreed though the previous study had an intervention and so more directly supported the idea that the belief created benefits.

And since it's based on value, this is highly related to the number of people living there. There could be a perpetually-erupting volcano where no one lives and it wouldn't show up at all.

No that's exactly wrong. Consumption of eggs was positively correlated with better CVD outcomes but they only had data to conclude that this holds up to an amount less than 1 egg per day. People with .76 fared better than those with .2

I should have added that there's a very good reason for making these assumptions: they let you represent the system with extremely little data! In general for a system with a continuous state space (like position) then to represent a g

Yes it is a special case of Bayesian inference under the assumptions that the system is linear and that the priors and likelihoods are Gaussian.

In this context, we did get the sprintf output - it was the chat functionality of a video game and that's how I knew anything was amiss.

Reminds me of the time I realized that the indie multiplayer game I was playing would print jibberish whenever you typed a "%" in the chat and therefore it was probably just doing an unsanitized sprintf somewhere. Then I realized

My password is a passphrase though. But you don't get autocorrect or swype functionality for typing passwords, understandably, so typing it is not easy (harder even because it grows in length for it's lower entropy per length).

I don't see the relevance. You can have (non-differential )algebraic equations that involve a "time" parameter. They can be non-reversible in the sense that I think you mean - that knowing a point "back" in time tel

Differential equations say nothing about causality they just describe what happens. Please remember that Pearl literally wrote the book on this topic before assuming he missed an elementary counter example.
