If you’re into this kind of thing, check out The Fall Of Civilizations podcast — it’s great and also has an episode on this topic. https://fallofcivilizationspodcast.com/2019/03/26/episode-4-...

I would love to have a (software) indicator that the camera/microphone are being accessed, similar to the location services icon. I think that would already be enough for users to start asking questions and keep abusive use in check.

Maybe I should have clarified: the RE650 is marketed as a repeater but it has an ethernet port and can be used as a simple access point.

The best way to introduce a formatter is with a git hook on commit/push (for JS projects see Husky), to ensure everyone is onboard and avoid exactly the formatting churn you mention. Thanks LaurensBER for the ‘git blame’ solution! htt

Sure, that's handy as an extra feature to get better performance, but I see that even in RxDB it's currently in beta and turned off by default. I suppose this could be the killer feature to warrant using a new database -- because

Thank you, this just fixed tearing on this T460p / Ubuntu 18.04. It's both funny and sad that this is all it took. Linux on the desktop sure is configurable.

Samsung DeX is currently the most popular (only?) implementation of that, and it's decent in my opinion -- especially if what you really need is a desktop-sized browser. https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/a

That blanket statement is either not true or incredibly sad: certain ThinkPads might have a great Linux experience (I still don't know which exactly, I am guessing the ones certified by Ubuntu should be alright), but random ThinkPads

To clarify, I was talking about the experience you get using MacOS on a Mac, definitely not a Hackintosh. Of course this is due to Apple (in most part) fully supporting all (their) hardware.

I am not at the point where I care about a "beautiful" Linux on a laptop, I'd be happy with twm and Motif widgets if only the hardware would be 100% supported and everything would work. For a reference point, a vanilla Ubuntu
