I'm a big fan of compiling my own kernel with all needed drivers compiled in, with the EFI stub compiled in, no initram, no grub, a fixed cmdline that works 99% of times. This allows a boot to happen in less than 5 seconds. The 1% of t

I build my own kernel. I did invest some time to select the right configuration, but now it's just a question of copying over the old .config and running "make". What's annoying about that?

Does it make sense to compare a C executable with an interpreted Python program that calls a compiled library? Is the difference due to the algorithm or the call stack?

Compare two specifications and summarize the differences (not a word-by-word diff).

We could conclude that "greenhouse effect", the evocative term that's been superseded by "global warming", was indeed appropriate!

I'm torn about ignorecase/smartcase: for interactive searches it's great, but there's no way to exclude it when invoking gd, gD, *, :tags, etc. (at least in Vim, not sure about Neovim). I'm thinking of leaving ignor

I love your post, and agree to everything, except the last 2 sentences. Yes, CSV is broken beyond repair. But this doesn't make the choice of separator immaterial. It's broken for other reasons AND for the separator. A character t

Yes, of course I was too quick: I was trying to suggest to use a single bracket char in the command just as TFA uses the comma. But it turned out that an opening bracket wouldn't work with some non-bash shells. So I was doubly wrong.

Sorry, but your wc implementation does nothing to detect words, it just counts the spaces. Of course you don't need a state machine for that!

For handling ASCII, table needs 4 states × 3 classes of chars. Why is it defined as 4×4? To handle illegal chars, it would need a 4th class but also a 5th state, so that's not the reason. Can it be to replace a 'modulo' opera

That's an over-generalization. Only branches that capture exceptional events, e.g. error checks, show 99% hit rate. Branches that are part of an algorithm are driven by the data you feed to them. For example in a classical binary searc
