Funny how Apple does similar thing when they think you owe them money. Sure, the phone is not in a total shutdown, but it is still crippled.

Very interesting concept and approach, mostly thanks to the very generic approach it takes. I wonder if one could implement something similar using some lightweight virtualization instead?

The title is confusing, perhaps worth changing "Reddit investors" to "Wall Street Bets users" or something similar. I genuinely thought the article would talk about owners of Reddit, not it's users.

Sounds difficult if you want to replicate organs 1-1, but what makes sense for human/animal bodies isn't necessarily the best way for labs. Maybe a single large biochemical reactor can solve half of those issues? There are already

Well, how about making it hard to do accidental input in the first place? If pasting is a problem the maybe make the actions necessary less possible to be triggered randomly?

Brain is kind of critical though. Might be easier and more efficient to just grow single targeted organs.

I think it is also likely that >1M$ developers can start negotiating custom agreements. Hard to say how much exactly is their negotiating power in that case, but it is probably non-zero.

I'd argue that it forces you to think clearly about problems. You cannot write a program unless you understand exactly what you want it to do. In contrast typical CEO excels at creating tons of meaningless fluff. Perhaps mathematics or

I guess software dev can afford to blow 1000$/year on silly side projects. Especially seeing how he got back significant portion of his expenditure. Being single or not has nothing to do with that? It sure seems fair to agree on spendi

Companies tend to use it and buy new licenses due to the same inertia you mentioned. Although the more cost conscious will at some point switch to the free alternatives.

There are niche uses, mostly with some forms of file sharing with limited file size. For example email attachments, but not only this.

The ASCII only restriction feels very artificial. I wouldn't be surprised to find some work in progress to lift it. Edit: yep, there is clearly work in that area and not even that recent. Of course support is spotty depending on actual

Analogous != same. The differences can easily cost a large fraction of productivity for a certain period of time (a couple of months?). Would I hire a bright candidate that require retraining given absence of those that do not? Quite likely

Meh, sure a C# dev can do Java and get up to speed with it pretty quickly, but certainly a proper Java dev will be more productive immediately. Knowledge of frameworks is a real skill for example.

Do you have a comprehensive study on refined carbs then? Somehow I don't think they are all quite as bad as the sugar is. Let's start with fixing the low hanging fruit before we step up the efforts.

Indeed, but it doesn't have to. It is a complementary tech. You have web apps which have no hope to match native apps with performance and yet people are using them thanks to ease of distribution etc.

Pacemakers do need to be serviced and replaced every once in a while, so this isn't end of the world scenario. Even better, stronger magnets would work for both "old" and "new" devices, so no need for two "disa

Interesting design, but it seems viable only by exploiting "free" cacheing given to AWS lambda functions. There are no guarantees here from Amazon, and I'm pretty sure whatever free capacity is there right now would evaporate

Seems like a failure in pacemaker design? The pacemaker kill switch should simply need much stronger magnets so there is no confusion between mobile phone or the kill switch key.

We require software to be resilient because it is used as a building blocks for large (sometimes exteremely so) systems. The deeper in the stack something is, the more costly the failure. A human may not input any of those strings. Another
