On the subject of cultural resignation, I'm totally with you. It's not a good way to go about life. Though I don't think it's required to come away from my comment with that conclusion. There's plenty of space betwe

My interpretation of the above comment isn't that software will always be "bad", more that software will never be perfect. If software were perfect, then it would scale 1:1 with the complexity of the problem at hand (no mat

The skeleton hand cursor caught me by surprise, and I burst out laughing. I miss the early internet.

Having used a couple of these frameworks (emotion and tailwind mostly), I can attest that there are significant issues with vanilla css at scale. I wouldn't dream of going back. That being said, I agree, the volume and wheel reinventio

I'm not sure what the original commenter was talking about, but no, it's not. There is vast agreement in the US about what happened.

I recently began seeing a personal trainer, and he got me to start using this heart rate/calorie burning tracker. I've always felt that kneeling and squatting is good for you, so I tested it out about a month ago. I spent a couple

idk, I've been using tailwind for the past 4 months on a large and complex project, and I haven't had to override a single class. There were a few instances in which I needed to write custom css to handle certain scenarios, but th

Something I've noticed is that when you're building a backend, your program only ever interfaces with other programs. You can establish a reasonably predictable protocol. But when you build a front-end, you're interfacing wit

I've been wondering when we will collectively move past the notion of "phones" in general.

Interesting! Although I wonder if similar conditions existed with networks in the 80's - I don't know much about the period but I do know there was competition. I'd be curious to know how http succeeded in that environment, b

What I'm proposing is drastic and radical, but consider how insanely expensive it is to create a multi-platform application. Currently all efforts to bridge the gap between platforms sits at the application layer - flutter, react nativ

My issue is that adding any functionality into native UI elements breaks the separation of concerns principle. You're wrapping structure, styling, and behavior all into one package, in a manner that is impossible to disentangle.

I believe it could be replaced by a platform agnostic language for describing interfaces. Imagine a universal standard for representing data on screen, where each platform could differentiate by building their specific abstractions on top o

That's exactly what I did. Part of me feels guilty about it because I don't have kids, so I feel like I can't really complain by comparison. But I feel just so tired that I literally couldn't do my job anymore.

this is my first time seeing the `place-items` property. at first glance I have no idea how it relates to `align-items` or `justify-content`. Feels like the grid API is getting a bit too cumbersome but maybe its just me.
