Every time I try to understand the 4th+ dimension, my brain just completely breaks and I'm left feeling angry. I'm a highly visual thinker so it's difficult for me to grasp concepts like that. Someone once told me that in the

The marketing page claims to offer "up to a 160x" perf improvement to Python. No idea how though.

Noob question. What does it mean to say that a language is "python-based"? Python is itself a language. Does it mean the parser/compiler is written in Python?

It's funny, I learned about currying back when I was first learning Javascript and programming in general. That was 10 years ago, and not once in my 10 years as a professional programmer have I ever needed to curry. Maybe I've b

A good iteration on this would be to include examples of each principle in action. For instance, I know that AirBnB's guidelines have visual demos. Shouldn't be hard to pull those and drop them onto this site.

I've been looking for an alternative to Skia so this looks interesting. Why Nim though? I've never heard of it before.

lol exactly. I've discussed this incident before on HN and had the same kind of "well tough luck but you deserved it" responses. They seem not to understand how off-putting it is to newcomers or students, to basically say &qu

Ah yeah, I remember now. You could turn off the DB, but there was some other kind of scaffolding thing that I was still getting charged for. It seemed like an RDS-specific thing. They had to point me to a tutorial for turning that piece off

Yep. I'm a novice at AWS. Last year I heard about RDS, and tried playing around with it. I thought I had shut it down because I clicked some button that looked like it was the turn-off button. I let it go on for a few months, only to

Disheartening for sure. I'm not sure if this is something that's particular to STEM fields, but there seems to be a far-too-large subset of people who think they're too smart for optimism. Like they've lost the ability t

I never miss an opportunity to share this eulogy I found a few years back, written way back in the 19th century: https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/MDH/EulogyoftheDog.pdf

I've been in the process of designing exactly such a language. It's nowhere near ready, but my goal is to create a design tool that can edit this language either using a figma/sketch like GUI or by editing the code directly.

My comment is general enough to be easily interpreted as a question. If you have an as to how this proposal is a necessary addition to WebGPU and WebGL, why not go with that, instead of snarky condescension?

Not only WebGL, but WebGPU is also in the works. I simply don't understand this proposal.

I find the no-low-code trend really interesting, because it shines a light on the difference in perspective between programmers and non-programmers. It's generally assumed that "code is complex", and therefore that's whe

Yep, svg + react = declarative graphics. I love it. I used it to replace D3 in a project I worked on last year and no regrets at all.

I played Dreams on the PS4 before I had heard of Roblox, and when I first heard about it I thought "oh wow it's probably like Dreams but for PC!" I was sorely disappointed - I'm as perplexed as you are how they became so

Every project I've inherited has done this, and every time I go through the tedious process of separating UI logic from business logic. If done the right way, a component-oriented approach can be very nice. But yes, if a dev thinks tha

Ah nice, I see. Any particular reason for Rust being used? Just curious, because I would (naively) expect to see similar projects with Golang, C++ etc but I really only see Rust.

So I'm familiar with WebGPU, but I'm not really sure why there would be a native (non-web) implementation of it. What are the practical uses of this, as opposed to just using something like Vulkan?

So I've seen both sides of the "unpopularity" issue. On the one hand, the other comments about pushing too fast for new features are valid. On the other hand, it very much depends on the developer in question. I'd say

Hard to describe, but it feels like it makes much, much more sense. I think it's because the divide between html/css/js is supposed to be one of concerns, but in reality the concerns are interwoven in many ways, and leads t

I've always been curious about video game pricing. The car dealership comparison was perfect, really shows how wild the market is.
