Given Copilot's specialization for this task, I can imagine it being better at extrapolating from your own code. I haven't used it myself yet, so can't speak directly to its effectiveness, but I would imagine it would be goo

The "it's been done before" one is pretty relevant. It means the model didn't actually generate the game, but likely pulled it more or less straight out of its training data. It's still very cool that you can ask it

Technically it's not archived, but just the live wordpress install is no longer accessible. From a web users's perpective, nothing changed (aside from the pages maybe loading a touch faster).

Only tangentially related, but reminds me of something I ran across recently. I've been maintaining a couple of old blogs my wife used to write for years; I don't want to get rid of them, but it was a bit of a pain having to regu

I wouldn't think so. There are infinite ways for people to customize their browsers; it's not reasonable to expect website developers to account for them all. Plus in the case of your parent, their website implements vim keybindi

Would depend why one doesn't want to be seen by cameras I suppose. I imagine in many activities where one would want to avoid being recorded, one would also want to avoid wearing the most visible and noticeable garment possible.

Yeah, you've got to look at percentages here. Some boomers get sucked into the pit of social media, but far more teenagers do. More life experience (and brain development in the case of young people) won't always help, but it of

I couldn't agree with this more. And not only that, but one of the problems faced by much of the developed world has been cost of living in large cities. There's no shortage of space out there, but we manufacture a shortage beca

It might be a bit more challenging to make one of those with 4" filters, but yeah, worth a look at least. The other reason I like it is that our furnace is in the crawlspace, so having to get down there less often to change the filter

That's not always feasible, as the built-in filter is usually integrated with the air handler. The add-on will generally have to be in the inlet ducting, so it will come first. I'm not sure that approach would even reduce cost th

Fair enough. It appears to me that Canadian fighters could have done it (see my other reply to the articles you posted), but it ultimately doesn't matter whether a US or Canadian plane did so, because air defense is shared. Recall th

But there's no reason for them to be able to do it on their own, because of NORAD.

Because that's how it's supposed to work. The US and Canada work together to defend their combined airspace. They're literally under the same chain of command, hence "NORAD". It would be rather inefficient to set

I mentioned in another reply (1), part of it is that they've reduced the filtering of radar signals, resulting in more objects being spotted, but also more false positives. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34759149

My point is, even if you didn't personally see the balloon, some people did, and so it was reported in the press (as is their job). The government didn't have any control over that, but once it happened, they had to address it.

Agreed. And perhaps given China claims it was an accident, for this incident shooting it down is response enough. Can always choose to escalate further (or not) if/when it happens again.
