Would this actually be practical? From what little I know about google infrastructure everything is dependent on their in house tooling and spinning projects off is a massive amount of work.

My partner has to manage having a 500MB quota on their home directory at work. A couple of times a month something decides to dump 300+ MB of data in there and break everything.

In my experience of academia, using PDFs as an image format is extremely common for sharing plotted data. The only common alternatives are (E)PS and PNG which are much worse.

I get a very similar experience using IPython from a terminal, sometimes copying code over from my main text editor (where I have linting, multiple cursors and other niceties). As I do a lot of plotting I use itermplot[1] to display inline

Is there an equivalent way of embedding data in PNG files? I've done this before by appending data to the end of the file but if I could make it more resistant to reprocessing that would be useful.
