I used to be in a situation like that. Couldn’t change positions due to a visa requirement and management took advantage of that. What helped me: - Have a light at the end of the tunnel, i.e. issuance of my permanent residency which would p

That’s one of the fun things you get to do in a giant company - careful performance tuning on large systems can yield some really massive results. And because of that it’s easy to get leadership support for those types of projects. Saved te

Either quit and take 3 months off before you start looking or find a new job ASAP and put your start date much later. Life’s too short to be in the wrong job. Mental health damage takes a long time to heal so don’t let it get that bad. Mark

I would apply Occam’s razor for this - the topic is becoming less and less relevant: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F0...

Sadly have to agree with this. And it’s not only security too. The amount of bad advice on r/SRE for example is worrying :|

OWASP Slack may be a good place to ask. In my experience the quality of answers there is pretty high: https://owasp.org/slack/invite YMMV though.

I used to work for GOOG and one thing I can attest to that bias is taken VERY seriously, so it’s not quite that simple.

Yeah I often have to add “reddit” afterwards and hunt for links there or use “site:” predicate to get decent results in addition to using a results blocker to filter out a lot of useless SEO results (e.g. Pinterest/Gitmemory)

This is really neat. We have some Kafka transformation/deduplication use-cases that we can leverage this on. Thanks for sharing!

I think the public transport is a US thing to be honest. I’ve lived in 10+ countries by now and the only place public transport completely sucked was the US. Everywhere else it’s been clean, efficient and fast. Even in places like Russia.

One of the constants I've seen in the past 15 years is soft skills and leadership - learn how to work in a team, how to socialize ideas, lead without authority, do cross-functional work. This will make you stand out from your peers and

Woah, mate. I think that way of thinking might be more-than-slightly career limiting. The community does play a role in the ecosystem you’re buying into. You will most likely need to send PR’s / bug reports in at some point. If the cor
