Like the article says, there are other factors. There are those that are genetically predisposed to addictions (alcoholism, drugs), but that doesn't mean all of them are addicts.

In many ways the creditor does do that (and even the debt collector). Send them a letter that you are willing to pay them the 1k up front, and they will actually be pretty willing to accept it.

Kids cause damage. They spill on carpets and draw on walls. My biggest reason for me personally, be able to take down walls, paint, dig holes, build XYZ without asking landlords permission.
