It's probably worth mentioning in any TL;DR of this that the so-called 'glasshub' reports winks as well as IR and proximity data (using the latter two technologies for the former-most?)

US patents last 20 years with design patents lasting 14 years. Whilst copyright and patents aren't directly comparable (design patents come close) it's hard to see how the size of this disparity makes any sense. Engineers keep creating thei

This article's title and content is mind-blowingly poorly worded. It's almost the definition of blogospam. I'd strongly recommend the original AWS blog article: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5665732 (TL; DR is that this is the re

Uhm - I'd be inclined to hope that a cluster of GPUs (or just the high end ones being used for something like this) would be capable of rendering at rather higher than 60fps - whilst screen refresh rates may not match that, I would expect e

To be fair I clicked on the article and immediately came back to the comments expecting the absolutely inevitable sprawl of comments about the title edit. :P So not strange, methinks. :P

I strongly suspect that this would, amongst other things, encourage some particularly sloppy library maintainers to ship 'fixes' or indeed first versions with many rules marked with !!!!!!!!!!important, to avoid just this. :/

Yes but surely that has something to do, at least in part, with the implied reduction in quality between the sent and received document? I would hope that any working 'teletransporter' would provide a near-enough-perfect replica?

The passwords _were_ salted and hashed (the article and e-mail screenshot both mention this). It's no s/b/...crypt but they don't seem to have been 'kept around'.

Living in the UK with our (IMHO) wonderful, sane gun control laws, the idea of a shooting seems surreal... and the jump from playing an FPS to the visceral horror of actually stabbing someone seems unlikely to be manageable without substant

I think that depends rather on who you are and your interests, to be fair - as much as I'm a fan of the former, the latter sounds like rather more fun.

I oftentimes find myself wondering what might be the equivalent of this sort of electronics hackery in the world of software. It's not uncommon for me to see engineer friends of mine working on these sorts of projects and to find myself env

Thanks for pointing that out! Like the sibling commenter here, I find that I almost exclusively check the weather on my phone, but I'll keep this at the back of my mind for more thought-out planning. :)
