Until the next bean counter at a different game company entirely decides an online product burns too much to be profitable. Or maybe the store for all those digital goods isn’t quite making its quarterly targets. Right now, I can head down

Certainly not the intention. The intent is that opaque junk fees are prone to abuse this way and we have no way of really knowing that they aren’t.

I just want the auto-sync experience of iCloud photos to my own NAS. Paying Apple $2.99/mo forever just so I can have an offsite backup of my photos is so obnoxious.

This is especially interesting as new housing stock is often not even available for purchase. It’s lease-only so the REITs get a portion of your income forever.

I once heard that things like NOP slides[0] are sometimes used in radioactive environments just in case jumps are off due to bit flips. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOP_slide

This is, once again, the story of piracy. Getting an M3U to put into whatever client of your choice is a soooooo much better experience than using whatever garbage IPTV app polluted with tracking most of the major players offer. DVR? My cli

OTA TV has one advantage over all of the delivery alternatives: no ongoing access fees. I agree that the spectrum is wasteful, but at least it still belongs to the people in some sense. If we give it up, it will be sold as more 5G spectrum

This. Some people are just not great writers, but when you ask them “what do you want to say?” they say it well. The next step, “okay, just write that”, never happens. They just use the 50-person all-hands weekly sync to do the saying part.

It’s kinda surprising that I’ve never heard of movie theaters doing smaller watch-a-movie-with-friends-sized theaters. No showtimes, just reserve your living room, pick among the new releases, and play. Order food and drinks and they get de

I’ve wondered if this is a move in their arsenal that they would make. EU citizens would be furious with their legislators if they couldn’t buy iPhones or use the App Store at all, forcing those legislators to capitulate.

Breaking down work works great until the breakdown is unknowable. Things like research, that require creative experiments to POC things that are not known apriori. That’s when task breakdown breaks down.

When I explored this question a few months back, I initially thought it was to extract rent. It seems though that it comes from concerns of malfunctioning ONUs, ones that perform poorly, or those that color outside the lines of the specs ca

Part of the issue is that being a landlord for short-term tenants is very different than being a landlord for long-term tenants. There's a misconception that "well, if we ban STRs, then they'll have to rent long-term. Check

You want to have weird password rules? Fine. Please make some standardized meta tags my password manager can find so it generates perfect passwords every time. Bonus points for a well-known URI facilitating touchless password rotation.

Apart from regular testing, I would imagine anything at or above DEFCON 3 would put missiles in alert status. That level requires the USAF to be ready to go in 15 minutes.

Is there something like a k1s? What I’d love is “run this set of containers on this machine. If the machine goes down, I don’t care—I will fix it.” If it wired into nginx or caddy as well, so much the better. Something like that for homelab

One thing I can’t understand about this is why purveyors of drugs would want to lace them with, effectively, a poison. The numbers must work out such that not enough of their customers die for it to make a measurable impact on profits.
