CoffeeScript seems to be an efficient alternative to plain Javascript. The fact is you can't avoid seeing Javascript completely. Just try debugging in Chrome or any other browsers built-in debugger and you'll know what I mean.

They do. I was once an active IMVU user. Outward appearances can be deceiving, but believe me they are profitable. If you read Eric Ries book 'The Lean Startup' you can have a glimpse of IMVU's back story there.

Disregarding whether you like Facebook or not. What we should watch out for is the it decline. Friendster --> Myspace --> Facebook --> ??? What would happen happen to Oculus then? By then I hope it gets bought by Microsoft or Valve
