Not all changes are for the players. The changes to remove perceived racial biases may improve inclusion for some minority of players. It may be a serious issue for those players, the game designers, or some executive. Just like real world

This is very good context. I've seen this poorly reported across news outlets and social media, and everyone seems to be spinning this as a discussion about whether jeans should be permitted and whether Magnus is acting like a diva.

This is not about dress code--it's about inconsistent enforcement and the letter of the rules. Zaven Andriasian was wearing jeans on the same day. Nepo was fined for wearing a jacket [0]. FIDE confirmed that his outfit was appropriate

This is one of the changes I like the most about Shadowdark. None of the players have darkvision, but all of the monsters do. Combat is unpredictable and dangerous, and darkness is a real threat. And Torches are finite resources that last 6

Why interview solely the grognards? Even OSE options like Shadowdark have adopted terms like ancestry over race. It sorta feels like this article is trying to create an issue where none exists. Changing race to species has not been a concer

I've had the same experience. Practically everyone I know primarily uses Facebook Messenger (or sometimes Instagram) for messaging since its available everywhere and has the features we like. We occasionally use SMS/RCS since it h

I disagree, it's useful to be able to click a document link and quickly preview it in your browser. At work, I have native apps for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and I still find myself using the browser version for quickly responding

I made the switch to Ibis a few months ago and have been really enjoying it. It works with all the plotting libraries including seaborn and plotnine. And it makes switching from testing on a CSV to running on a SQL/Spark a one-line cha

Agreed. I don't think I'll drop gtk-rs any time soon, but this is certainly much faster for prototyping. I hope this encourages more folks to develop native Gnome applications.

I'm glad that Bitwarden moved quickly to resolve this. At least for me, Firefox's password manager isn't really a replacement. Bitwarden is approved by my employer, self-hostable, and supports logins for the litany of apps ac

This is coming at the perfect time! I was recently trying to decide whether I wanted to implement a model in Stan or Pyro/Numpyro, and I've been eyeing implementing in JAX. I would love to write a tutorial comparing Stan to Jax.

Many pilots already use a smartwatch to track their sleep and provide evidence for fatigue callouts. Right now, pilots are grounded and face an arduous process to prove they're healthy. Most pilots eventually receive a special issuance

Can the title be changed to reflect that CPI is up 2.5% over the last 12-months, driven primarily by a 0.5% increase in shelter? "CPI for all items rises 2.5%; shelter up" is not quite right.

It's about 1 in 12 or 8% of men and 1 in 200 women, but I agree. Pay special attention to the accessibility of your visual communication. Avoid red/green/yellow, and try to use color _and_ pattern if possible.

NCEES attempted to create an accreditation scheme in the US for Software Engineering, but canceled it because few people took the exam [0]. It's not surprising that almost no one took the exam. It wasn't well publicized and employ

The Rust maintainers said they would maintain the Rust bindings. But wouldn't it be nice to have a heads up that the bindings might break? Or whether assumptions have changed? Or even what the assumptions are? It's a little tough

If you have short time-series with low variance, noise and outliers, strong prior knowledge, or limited resources to train and maintain a model, I would stick with simpler traditional models. If DL is a good fit for your use-case, then I te

Is it a _fundamentally_ bad idea? The connected syncing feature of Bitwarden is one of my favorite things. I can save a password on one device, and its automagically available on others all while staying encrypted (and audited).

There have been a few companies advertising something like this (e.g., oneday.io) where you build a startup and earn an accredited professional MBA along the way.
