If you read the article, it's clearly not intended to be a "resource for learning about Haskell". It's a gentle introduction to monads for people who don't want to read Haskell code.

Here's my opinion as someone who's sometimes approached to be a technical cofounder or early employee. First, banish the phrase "change the world" from your vocabulary. I've never heard it used in a meaningful, information-conveying sentenc

A better title would be "Gratifying My Intellectual Curiosity Regarding In-n-Out". It still pleads relevance to HN, and is even more difficult to argue to be inaccurate.

Maybe you're thinking of `foldl`, which happens to be tail-recursive. The reason it's avoided is because it can unnecessarily eat up O(n) space due to laziness. The issue is avoided by using the strict (and also tail-recursive) `foldl'`.

I enjoy a good sinophobic innuendo as much as the next guy, but how is it any easier to omit something from a hand-drawn map than to blur it out in a satellite photo? http://www.itsecurity.com/features/51-things-not-on-google-m...

For one thing, you should take phrases like "weekend project" with a grain of salt. People who share their projects on HN know they're facing a tough crowd, and understating their time investment is one way to deflect the inevitable nitpick

It doesn't make sense to compare the percentage of Gmail accounts that lost data in a single event to the annual failure rate of a hard drive. It also doesn't make sense to assume my local storage is a single hard drive in a world where a R

Here's a philosophical question. Is choosing a strong password "security by obscurity"? A 20-character mixed-case random string is only more secure than the password "password" because so many users default to the latter, and to short words

Actually, it doesn't. A compound modifier isn't hyphenated when it's clearly an adverb modifying an adjective -- e.g., when the adverb in question is a -ly word.

What does Chrome have to do with this mode of tracking? Google Analytics will capture a referrer from any browser that includes it, and no browser that I know of displays a "red warning" when including it.

If the mirror is wider than the cone of the laser (1 meter in this case), then irradiance still falls off as the range squared. Reflecting the laser back at its source only doubles the range.

Yep. The salt would have to public, which would defeat the purpose. However, a user can protect herself by "salting" her own email with an address tag. For example, provide tom+ES85jFxz@rpi.edu as your address instead of tom@rpi.edu.

You're misunderstanding the meaning of "acting as intermediary between capital and labor". "Capital" doesn't mean money; economists use that word to refer to durable goods that can be used to produce other, salable goods. Most goods require
