This is built in to the Maps functionality on the iPhone. Typing in "taxi" will show me the details of the nearest cab companies and touching the phone number that appears will let me call them. Getting the nearest free cab to drive to me w

No problem. If Lively becomes popular it's still not going to be in the same market space as what the OP is doing. Not all Virtual Worlds share the same market. Google don't want to take over any and all VW, they want to be the platform tha

SVG on the iPhone would be a big plus. All the web-based clients use flash so can't be accessed on the iphone. I'm sure there's a SVG->VML javascript toolkit out there somewhere.

Lively is and never will be a significant competitor to the VW business as we know it now. It's an early prototype of a tiny part of the vision they have; the dipping of the proverbial toe in the water. What Lively and the other Google tech

You have a distinct advantage over a 3D world if you don't need a special plugin (other than a bog standard Flash player) and it works in the most common browsers (Firefox, IE6, IE 7, Safari). Cater to what people would have installed at wo

To be honest I didn't see that many valid points. Plenty of "lol wut?" but no real criticism apart from the colour of the background. Having said that, like a lot of those people I'm also 100% sure I can build a trip counter with a much bet

Raph Koster did a presentation at GDC2007 that touched on this: http://www.raphkoster.com/gaming/gdcprime2007.shtml The slides that struck me were this one: http://www.raphkoster.com/gaming/gdcprime2007/Slide61.JPG followed by this one

A lightbulb wastes watts, idle power adaptors waste milliwatts. You can still save a few <currency> on your annual bill by switching the lights off when you don't need them and using energy-saving bulbs. OK, so that's probably in th

My brain's frazzled. Are you using US gallons or Imperial gallons in those calculations? I'd suggest they go a step further though. The first thing I do when looking for a new car is convert the mpg figures into pence per mile.

Tim Sweeney (Epic/UnrealEngine) did a great presentation a while ago about what his ideal game engine programming language would be like. http://www.st.cs.uni-sb.de/edu/seminare/2005/advanced-fp/doc... (PDF) It's almost a cry for help, bu

Why can't you store the save games on the server? You can easily store a unique access key in the default 100k for casual users (and I assume that registered users log in).
