I'm a high school computer science teacher, and I use CodeCademy in my intro Web Development course. For my use case, it's not bad, but the students are working through the lessons in class with me there to help them when they get stuck.

I knew Harris and Klebold had brought bombs with them, although I'll admit I'd forgotten about the bomb that didn't go off they'd set outside. When I said "planted bomb", what I was thinking of was a situation where the bomber visits the in

Yes, I'm pretty familiar with Columbine. What you seemed to have missed in my question were the words "bomb threat". When has anyone called a school and said "I've planted a bomb" and then a bomb ended up actually being there? I assert neve

I'm at a public school in suburban Austin, and we get probably one bomb threat a year (that I know about). We evacuate for each one, unfortunately.

This is a ridiculously-poor example. The Columbine shooting didn't involve a planted bomb, and there wasn't a phone call in advance. The boys just showed up to school shooting.

It's almost certainly a hoax, of course. I'm fairly certain there's never been a bomb threat on an American school where there turned out to be an actual bomb. Not once in any school in the United States, ever in the entire history of the n

Obviously there's not enough context here to figure out what happened, but from what's presented, I'd side with Re-invent. I don't trust anyone who takes a screenshot of only two posts in what was almost certainly a long thread. Another red

Good on you! The world needs more hard-working and passionate teachers. FYI the University of Texas at Austin has a similar camp: First Bytes[1], which is free to attend if you get accepted. [1] http://www.cs.utexas.edu/outreach/first-byte

MTP does not work fine in Linux (specifically, Ubuntu 12.04). You can read the files but not write arbitrary files into arbitrary folders.

I take that back, my Galaxy S III does work as expected using MTP with Windows 7. Previously my workplace was using an older Windows.

This is not an issue with Apple or Samsung, it's an Android decision. Support for the USB Mass Storage protocol has been deprecated in Android in favor of MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) starting with Ice Cream Sandwich. The experience in Win

I'm not sure I'd want new users to participate. I'd want them to lurk for a while (a few weeks or months) to learn the standards of the community before "contributing". If the average new user just started doing what they do on other simila

I've never heard of Rublon before now, but this post has started me off with a pretty negative impression. I'd suggest you work on your elevator pitch a bit more.

I don't see any mention of 2-factor auth on the linked page. Maybe they're rolling it out in stages?

I use Linode for several low-traffic sites as well, and I'd recommend them. However, there's one crucial aspect in which they're different than having a Linux machine sitting in your office (which I also have): for $100 I can put a 2TB driv

You clearly don't work with college-aged students in the United States if you think the material in this essay is old hat. Regardless of what's been written or how often, the vast majority of students entering top universities today are d

I agree wholeheartedly. My wife is an associate professor at a top-10 CS school (though she's not in the CS department). I wish we could FORCE all the incoming freshmen to read this essay. And read it again every semester.

I definitely DO NOT want that; siloing is the expected behavior for my use case. Thanks for doing this, BTW. I was JUST working on an MVP and dreading writing the user auth part. I'd even been pricing SSL certs!
