I had to install the DirectX user runtime recently and was pretty shocked to see Microsoft has loaded it up with lots of crapware. First when you click download from its page at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download&

Good talk, but I wish there was a deeper dive into what it was like living and working in the DPRK. For folks more interested in that, check out this great talk from HOPE last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_HXPm-PN

What does MS gain? Is online source code storage really going to be a million or billion dollar business for them? It seems like it's just a race to the bottom with costs, just like Dropbox, Box, etc. etc.

That's awesome, and holy cow I think this is the first time I've ever seen Chrome on Linux actually render WebGL. Did they finally enable it by default in recent updates?

Ouch, I knew someone who had SJS from a reaction to some drugs and it was a truly horrible experience. Ended up in the burn ward for a while because SJS was basically causing their skin to come off. Would not wish that on my worst enemy (

You can pick a great kit from MightyOhm that has the tube and supporting electronics to power it. It outputs data on a serial connection so it's easy to read from an Arduino. Check it out here: https://www.adafruit.com

I am genuinely curious, why is this post on Hackernews' front page? Yes I know this type of comment is typically frowned upon (and will happily accept the downvotes), but seriously--a story about cooking beans with some vague science

How is the Broadwell CPU in it compared to Haswell chips in performance? It might say Core i7 but I thought Broadwell was basically a warmed over Atom processor. Performance from Broadwell on inexpensive tablets and laptops has not been g

It would be pretty ironic, but maybe it would kick Microsoft to do something similar. If they already have fancy buses to shuttle all their workers around, why don't they lay a nice fiber network to give them all fast internet (and al

I've been living in the Seattle area for 10 years, and my only option for high speed internet has been Comcast. So where has the magic of the free marketplace been for that time?

I wonder if they could at least bring it to the east side, where their Kirkland office and Microsoft in general is located. I bet there are lots of high tech workers who would be more than happy to dump Comcast for Google Fiber over there.
