Well for whatever reason it certainly didn't help MS in the long run to produce that video. They missed the technology that actually mattered like the iPod, iPhone, and iPad and are still scrambling to catch up to everyone.

I'd love to know why companies even waste time making videos like these anymore. Looking back at past stuff (like the 'smart home' from Microsoft in the mid 90's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V_0xDUg

Awesome! I've been looking for something like this for a long time, thanks! It's so annoying to switch between JS, python, etc. and have to remember simple stuff like appending to an array, etc. again. Very handy to have this c

Err, McDonalds is significantly declining and their CEO is stepping down this weekend: http://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-ceo-is-out-2015-1 Don't assume what you see locally is how things are at a macro level.

Neat concept, but I can't help finding it ironic that this would make an actual reality of the stereotype that Googlers and tech companies in general are living in a bubble cut off from the rest of society. Also hopefully they won'

Not really, there are two people in the world who have the power to completely obliterate it with a full scale nuclear strike. A small committee of people making a proposal, giving 9 months to comment on it, then vote on it sounds like a no

Look at GPIO expander chips like the MCP23008. They're only a couple bucks and give you GPIO pins you can control over the Pi's I2C bus. You can run a few of them off an I2C bus using different addresses too. Can see the chip a

Any idea what battery life might look like on the Linux version? Really hoping it can get near the 10+ hours of the Windows version.

IMHO having everyone call in to listen to a pre-recorded message telling them they're fired is just as bad as the public firing Armstrong gave. At least have the decency to have a face to face conversation or meeting.

Wow I was curious and it looks like there were only ever about 5-6 million Apple II computers produced (according to Wikipedia). That's pretty darn amazing that the Pi is already on track to surpass the Apple II--what I remember as th

Yeah the problem is getting to that point. Check out the docs on setting up an apt repo: https://wiki.debian.org/HowToSetupADebianRepository Good luck figuring out the easy way of using reprepro and S3 from that page.

I've been looking at hosting some apt packages in a custom repo and am truly impressed/horrified by the layers of complexity necessary & suggested to create one. It boggles my mind why an apt host has to be more than a static

Given that the median home price is over $1 million if you want to own a home you're going to be paying closer to $4k/month for a mortgage. After taxes that 125k is closer to 90k take home and once you put away more of that for r

No these were false alarms at completely random times with no cooking, dusting, or other activity going on. A couple were late at night well after 2am and were pretty nerve rattling.

The problem is if you have too many false alarms people will rip the smoke detector down and disable it. There's a fine balance.

I don't think it's just Nests, I bought a First Alert smoke alarm a year ago and it just recently started giving me random false alarms. Battery is fine but something is setting it off (not fire or smoke, and yes it has both atom

Alright I put the Pi 2 in a cardboard box and held the flash at the same spot (but the box obscures the light). It keeps running just fine and doesn't have the nasty spike. Definitely is something light related.

I'll put it in a box and try in a little bit, sorry have to do a few things first. I'm 99% sure it's light dependent though, I had to aim the flash at the board and keep it somewhat close to get it to lock up (like 6" a
