If Google is back into separate services can we get Reader turned back on please?
- dilap 12y agoI must've tried like 300 replacements, and settled on bazqux, which is pretty good (though a bit ugly, and doesn't have a good mobile site).
- mblakele 12y agoI'm using https://github.com/mjibson/goread https://github.com/mjibson/goread now. Nice of google app engine to help me self-host it.
- wyclif 12y agoWhat is the problem with Feedly?
- alebaffa 12y agoI agree. I'm using Feedly too and I find it way better than GReader.
- r00fus 12y agoMeaningful search (above top-3) is still not free. Which is honest and fair, but that worked pretty well in GReader and I'd consider it a regression. I still use it daily.
- rspeer 12y agoTheir interface forgets I've read things, and their CSS has always been a huge fuck-up. Even after you turn off the stupid "magazine mode", it cuts off images at some small number of hundreds of pixels while there's a thousand pixels of whitespace to the right. I switched to theoldreader.com and have been much happier.
- est 12y agoIt's gonna be back on the day when official Google Talk client updates.
- Calamitous 12y agoI've been using NewsBlur. It works well on desktop and mobile, and is reasonably priced.
- Bootvis 12y agoNot clear from this comment and good to know: there is a free version (that I use) and that works great!
- akkartik 12y agoAs a google employee, I wouldn't use Reader now even if it magically came back. Fool me once, etc., etc. In fact, I wouldn't use any third-party service. I have the skills, and readers are easy to build; there's just no reason to outsource this particular product. - rodgerd 12y agoCommonality across many devices is useful to me, so I ended up running tt-rss. Just don't read the forums.
- puzzlingcaptcha 12y agoI will latch on to this commend to recommend http://tt-rss.org/ http://tt-rss.org/ which I have been running since the demise of GReader and have been very happy with it. Performant with a huge number of feeds, able to share arbitrary items in your own public RSS feed, decent android client and wonderfully abrasive support forums. screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/I7YLePz.png http://i.imgur.com/I7YLePz.png
