I started with rails 3 and I haven't had any major hurdles to overcome. I've been very impressed with Rails. I'm coming from a Python/PHP framework background, and so far rails is my favorite (only done a few apps so far, mind you).

I use Evernote for everything from notes and todo lists on my various projects to grocery lists, medical info tracking, plugins I want to try with vim, and daily task lists. I've tried it multiple times in the past and gradually stopped us

I'm on their $4.99/month plan. I hardly ever send any faxes so I never go over my quota, but it's nice to have my own number to be able to receive them. On the rare occasions I need to send a fax, their editing/signing tools are a true pl

I'm not sure whether your comment is against Moon colonization specifically or more generally against the use of funds for space exploration. In the case of the former I don't know enough about the potential of such a mission to pass judgm

To prevent what? Data entry? I've also noticed that quite a few shady companies I've seen register their companies and bank accounts in Cyprus and live/operate elsewhere. I'm assuming it provides some kind of legal benefit but I don't kn

As a heavy Google services user, I prefer Android overall, but something about the iPhone's keyboard keeps luring me back. Until I spend a couple days with the iOS Google Voice app. Then I put my SIM card back in my Nexus One.

Try Google Latitude. The history feature is probably a rough approximation of what the cell phone company (and by extension, law enforcement) would see.

I've used SliceHost, Linode, and AWS, as well as some "no-name" providers. Linode is my top pick. I've thought about moving my stuff to AWS (due to the hourly vs monthly billing) multiple times but always ended up staying with Linode.

I just reused someone elses' thread title for HN. I don't believe (as the original author might) that Google hates SIP. My concern is that they purchased a company with a functional and well-liked product and are shutting it down before t

Your BBM PIN is separate from your phone number. My friends with Blackberrys have people they talk to on BBM that they don't even have phone numbers for.

I can't really imagine why they wouldn't have released one. The only plausible reason I can come up with is that their manufacturing costs couldn't come close what Apple was able to do to put out their $499 16GB WiFi model.

Another big winner for me (on any Android 2.2+ device): tethering via portable WiFi hotspot. Although it's much more satisfying when I run my Nexus One on my AT&T unlimited data plan than when I get molested by Verizon for my data usag

It's barely priced higher than the equivalent iPad model. $729 for the 3G/32GB iPad vs. $799 for the 3G/32GB Xoom. IMHO, Honeycomb is far beyond the current iOS iteration for iPad. Granted I'm a Google services oriented person and Apple w

I use VMWare Fusion all the time. I spent 30 minutes trying to buy it and 30 seconds getting a pirated serial. I think the software is well worth the price and I'd happily give them the money if they could provide a reasonable way for me

I liked the point about Al-Jazeera. I've been reading/watching for a few years now and I always thought their reporting was less slanted than the US news networks. It annoys me to no end to hear people call them a terrorist mouthpiece, es
