So from my experience most of the people using it won't think there was a "good capitalism time". I think the prevalence of that term is used to evoke the idea that continuing for too much longer on the current path is imposs

I just got laid off but working there can be really good. My manager and team were great engineers but also just truly nice and caring people and the pay and benefits were great. On the other hand I found the work to mostly be tedious (for

So I agree the pay is good but for me (and most of my friends it really wore me down over time) that place really wore me down over time. I was already planning on leaving but I was shocked at how happy I was to be laid off from there, peop

The opinion that HN has particularly high quality comments is always surprising to me. Outside of the times where the person commenting is the actual creator of whatever the post is about I've found comments here to be a dumpster fire

That isn't an accurate characterization of these layoffs. They also laid people off in ads and just across all the orgs in general apparently. I'm hearing this from one of my friends in ads who got laid off.

The craziest thing to me is that the employees at these companies are some of the most sought after people yet when push comes to shove they seem to have all just rolled over and not raised a fuss with layoffs. These companies are some of t

They are making over a billion a week in profits (and still growing). Layoffs can be justified but it's a bit of a head scratcher to be doing them when the company seems to be doing generally well

The value of a dollar is arbitrary so having it slightly change over time works just fine, I don't really understand what you think would be the issue there. Also, to be clear, the inflation target is not 2% because the Fed just like p

Nothing is stopping people from saving (I mean, except for low real wages), even with inflation, it's incredibly easy nowadays to put money into investments. Also I don't understand how deflation would eliminate the boom/busy

I think you're too focused on dollar amounts because the value of a dollar is in some ways arbitrary (hence why they can have an inflation target and have that make sense). You can have things practically get cheaper even with inflatio

It'll be a cold day in hell before a CEO gets charged for any crimes that they oversee (at least without seriously defrauding another corporation or rich person). Not a single Sackler is in jail for causing the opioid crisis.

It depends what you mean by child labor. My experience is that the children help on the farm but for the most part do school full time until at least their latter teenage years. It's pretty different than the child labor in the article
