So because it is difficult and fraught with past failure, we shouldn't do it? I don't really see how anybody could pose a logical argument for allowing a terrorist government to control a country. We already completely dropped the ball on A

This viewpoint is very analogous to the Big Co. obsession with quarterly numbers. How many companies have screwed themselves by failing to look past next month's bottom line? Having a highly strategic location like Afghanistan controlled by

More feasible than flybys? Certainly. Good enough for now? It will be, when my friends stop getting blown up.

Snipt.net is the one I use and it keeps me coming back because it allows me to have my own personal snippets (which can be either public or private). Perhaps you should let people register and do the same (or "flag this revision for me" if

The problem is hardly solved. * Each jammer is different and caters to a specific type of detonator, or group of detonators. * Effective ranges aren't large enough. * Lack of proper training for soldiers means most have no idea if the jammi

I'm the same way (and I used to hate morning). I'm not sure if it's a product of it being quieter in the early morning when I first wake up (as opposed to at noon), the fact that recently I've been alone in the "office" for most of the da

Well, you could have tried. I don't see how one could express disagreement regarding the education of people, such that they realize we are not all-powerful being destined to control every aspect of the Universe.

I wouldn't call it "great"; the writing was rather pedestrian. Another inspiring story, nonetheless! All I really have at this point is, "must be nice".

Big armies can also instill good values, teach useful skills, help pay for education, show you the world (parts of it anyway), and provide some pretty unique perspective on things (like war). I pretty much feel that military service should

It truly has become tiring. I already pay $96/mo for what amounts to a data plan, considering I almost never talk on the phone. And now they want another $55/mo to give me the luxury of maybe getting my money's worth (in some Universe)? E

At first I thought they were trying to be ironic. But they keep it at such a level that I think they're being serious. In which case, I'd definitely run.

I have no idea why I would "surely" mean that. Is "32-bit RGBA PNG" a synonym for "24-bit PNG with Alpha Transparency"? If so, I suppose I could have been more explicit, though I've never once seen such images referred to as that.

CSS sprites are stupid. So stupid, in fact, that I refuse to use them. It wouldn't be such a big deal, I suppose, if IE6 supported proper transparency. But as it stands, I still cannot, in 2009 , safely use a 24-bit PNG for my CSS sprite

Agreed; I would definitely get rid of that part. Zen isn't so much about crushing others. I feel like it should be a requirement to study a philosophy before using it to promote a product. Edit: Signed up; looked around; certainly appears t

It is astonishing how few people I take seriously anymore, precisely because of this. Most blog posts I read now seem to have a blatant typo in the first paragraph, if not first sentence. It's profoundly irritating. If I can read my drafts

Here's mine: Double it, add another unit up. So, two days becomes four days + 1 week = 11 days. I've found this (depressingly) accurate over a large sample size. The only problem is, for each new task, I refuse to accept that such a "ridicu

How convenient this comic now exists to help me laugh at all these sorts of ridiculous thought processes: http://xkcd.com/605/ Sadly, there are lots of people who probably think exactly like that, and in a serious fashion.

Heh, you're missing the point. There is no difference between "the dishes" and "really living". To suggest otherwise would be to suggest you don't control everything the dishes are and aren't. Which would be silly.
