I think I'd have to know something to be a writer like PG, though I suppose I could just make it up ;) I very much appreciate the compliment, though!

You didn't read far enough ;) It wasn't my intention to make that seem literal; I am still very much committed to working on and improving the site. I was merely speaking to a sentiment that I feel many developers experience as time goes by

Is there objective reasoning to claim that doing something else besides raising your children well is the most important thing in life? So you're countering my argument by claiming I should have to prove the inverse? I suppose I can stop

I don't think this wonderment really applies to non-dedicated hosting (however awesome Slicehost might be). When dealing with shared hosting of any sort (VPS included), it's a reasonable assumption that the host will stay fully on top of ha

It is necessary for children to be raised, obviously. It is not necessary for one to raise their own children; kids can be adopted, have single parents, etc.

As an ex-smoker I see two preposterous ideas in this e-cigarette: (a) That if one wishes to shake a drug addiction, they should do so by using the drug . Addicted to heroin? Start by doing a little less heroin! (b) That this is somehow "

Yeah, but the user doesn't get real attribute on the Fluther site either, beyond a screen name and a profile that (as far as I can tell) doesn't even have a field for a personal link or bio about the author. Most sites are essentially "stea

hippywrangler.com is available -- good luck ;) I agree though; there's a ton of talent on that site, but most of those folks aren't really out for money.

So there is no necessary relation between a task being trivial, and how long it takes. I wish more non-engineers could grasp this. It's so annoying when people say, "It's not done yet? But you said it would be a trivial feature to add!" I

Soldiers are not machines which can be programmed once and then retain their skill set indefinitely. All that peace time is spent gaining additional training and maintaining readiness for a time of war. Not off helping unload water trucks o

Right, so I wasn't saying that having a "normal job" is objectively bad, merely that in certain circumstances people have a tendency to "settle" for their lives and mistake rationalized contentment for happiness. I used it as an example sin

The loading/unloading was a form of exercise. Uh, no, this was a war-time example. So were my notes about "incoming Units". When we were relieved in Afghanistan, our work was pretty much thrown out, despite the fact that we'd had the most

Random example: You're given a semi-trailer-sized shipment of heavy "product" (whatever it may be). You're directed, along with a half dozen other troops, to empty the truck (by hand; nothing is on pallets) and put the items in the "yard" a

In the U.S. military, soldiers are encouraged to "move with a purpose". However, this mostly just leads to the predominant situation referred to as "hurry up and wait"; everything must be done super quickly, even though completing it so qui
