There was an article the other day that talked about the resale value of diamonds. Basically jewelers refuse to buy back diamonds at any reasonable price (compared to original retail value. And refuse to make new rings with old diamond etc.

I did exactly the same, engagement ring was made of plastic with some fake shiny stone! Though for our wedding rings we did get real gold with no stones.

I recently replaced the pump in my espresso machine. Turns out a lot (maybe all?) have the same solenoid pump and they are not expensive at about €25. Also found out my "Solis" machine is sold as Breville in the US.

The absolute values measured are not that high luckily. In the Netherlands at New years pm10 of greater than 1000 can be observed. I believe my outdoor sensor peaked at 900 in the first minutes of 2020. Glad fireworks were banned this year

Thanks for the extension! Don't make that meany diagrams but when I do I use it. Much easier than going to the draw.io in the browser as the extension can easily access the files in the source code

I really hope this works as good as they claim. Now just mount the laser on a Spot so you don't get all the tire tracks. Small scale robots, not giant tractors, are the real future of agriculture

Yes, because we have plenty of other options that are cheaper and don't burden future generations with a huge radioactive mess. Of course we might have to reconsider if everyone should commute to some pointlesss office job in an F150 e

I feel these kind of solutions where the hard shoulder is used as an extra lane are used to sneak in widening roads. When an extra lane is suggested, NIMBY and/or environmental concerns will immediately raise objections and kill the pr

I love the TLDR's. Instead of opening some ad-filled site, working my way through all the cookie banners and enabling just enough js to let the actual load, I can actually get the gist of it in about 10 seconds. Also, I prefer high inf

So can you technically "hide" data in a ZIP file as a form of steganography? Just add it to the zip file but mark it as deleted. Then any common zip utility will skip it, but a specialized one could extract that extra information

Yes you are right. I put it anyways because votes matter, being angry on the Internet does not. And the tough on crime mentality that lead to this is pushed harder by Republicans than Democrats.

I completely agree. This is a bit of a process though, look at how Texans with variable rates responded to extremely high (90 times normal rate) prices: some just said f*ck it and managed to use 10-20K USD electricity in a few days.
