No clue if they are right. If they are, I can imagine it is because Mint would be stripped of any telemetry and other corporate bits of Ubuntu that Canonical has in there. From what I know, Canonical/Ubuntu does a good job of anonymizi

Gotcha. The about page doesn't give as much details as I would like and from how some of the pages it is worded, its sounded like it has been employee owned for a lot longer, based on their website.

I posted this company as reply to another comment. But if your interest, Left Hand Brewing has been employee owned for 26 years I believe? https://lefthandbrewing.com/our-story/about-us

Yea, to back up the point some more. I work on a completely desktop enterprise solution. So there is no offloading the work from my machine either. Our test suite even on moderately fast hardware still takes about 10 minutes to run the full

As reasonable as that would be. I feel like it would just turn into people getting their degrees revoke claiming 'cancel culture' and becoming gurus with many mindless followers pushing loose weight quick schemes kind of thing. Be

The one major flaw I would like to point out here. Don't look at development on apple silicon as only development on Apple silicon. They base the architecture off their A-series processors in their phones, but scaled up. So all the res

I wonder if to address this, we could do something slightly different. There is definitely a danger here. Hang out around a military base where a bunch of young men got back from deployment and see how many of them are driving BMWs. When I

Gotta agree. My wife is not tech savvy, and most of my family isn't either. The amount of tech support I do has dropped since everyone went to the Apple platform. About the only thing I have to do is to tell everyone to hold off on maj

I think the issue isn't necessarily the existence of SWAT, but the over use of SWAT. SWAT makes sense if its LAPD going in to do a raid on a big cartel event. In a real scenario when you are also going to be confronting a large group a

No kidding. I miss IRC. I still use it, but yea, its mostly silence. About the only time I've seen interaction is on something like #fedora or #freebsd where people just ask support type questions.

I think a better way to word it is, "hey, are you having a hard time finding a job? If so, we will give you one for the time being." Which Germany kinda does this to my understanding. If your having difficulty finding a job, the s

The sad part is the short nearsightedness. I know tons of RHEL engineers who only got into RHEL because they could essentially learn large parts of RHEL for free on CentOS and then go on to work professionally on RHEL. I also understand tha

While that is true about Rust, most new languages are gonna have the same thing. It'll be years before they get to 1.0. Look at Zig, just about every new language. So I don't think it is valid to discount the 1.0 days because all

I heard closer to 600K in sales. But I do think, regardless of the actual number, Apple doesn't plan to sell millions of theses. At least not this iteration of the device. Which is something I've seen parroted quiet a bit.

I don't think fees are a viable argument anymore. At least not at face value. Last I looked, Google, Apple and Valve all take 30% cuts. I believe Nintendo does too. Unless there are some backroom sweet heart deals at least with the maj

I don't mind the pop up except for, I wish they had a way built in where it doesn't do it for like a special list of apps. Apps I am thinking of would be like GIMP or VLC. Well known open source projects that have been around a lo

This is an interesting idea, but I can see it being either good or bad, especially depending on the fee. Lets say Apple does this, its $25 per year to list an app on the app store. If you have less than 4 apps, its a deal. If you have 4 app

There are some things in Swift that definitely are not as easy going as on Golang. Swift I think, at least offers a good starting point (the bits are there), but it is so hard to find good Swift documentation or blog posts that are not ce

That is sorta how I feel. Regardless how people feel about Swift. Having dabbled in Swift over the past couple of weeks, getting paid to sling C# and doing Rust in my open source work, Swift feels like a perfect mix between C# and Rust. You
