I'm not incredibly social, nor do I have a lot of variation in the clients I work for, but having a beard seems to be a positive attribute, if anything. I mostly notice the effect when meeting in-person; probably because there is far m

Except, this is software. My favorite expression when things get heated: "Nobody is going to die." There are exceptions, of course, but a vast majority of the work we do just doesn't matter in the context of life and nature.

Ah, apparently I do not fully understand the hardware implementation. Consistent, in software at least, is the concept of memory being linear; references using a start and end point, and points between.

For Objective-C (or any objective language): geometry. Qualities of objects, and their role in relation to other objects are really all there is. Also, memory, which is all we are manipulating at the end of the day, is linear; points on a l

I applaud your appreciation for diversity. Taking it a step beyond occupation alone, I currently believe it to be a necessity for a healthy and contented life; specialization, due to imbalance, causes harm. Excessive amounts of one type of

The article states there is a palace, but he has repurposed it as a shelter for the homeless. This is is a deliberate decision, not becasue of a lack of resources.

Care to elaborate on "all of the bad things"? If there's anything to take away from this discussion on Mandela, it's that there are a lot of misunderstandings about what actually happened, especially if you are primarily

Automatic downvotes for green accounts?! If that was a good idea, it would be built into the software. Read, comprehend, and then interact based on the content . Meta posts like this are a waste of everyone's time.

Hm, all the outlets in my kitchen are below the upper cabinets, so there's no room to fit a phone, and especially not a tablet, on top. Every home is different, obviously.

I'm very surprised this was so heavily backed, given the limited number of physical spaces it can occupy. What percentage of the outlets in your home are accessible? What percentage of those outlets would you want to keep all of your d

I took this a step further for a recent client with a low budget and used separate social sites to manage the content. I'm certainly not the first to do this, but it's worth mentioning as a viable alternative for a lot of smaller

I don't think it's really necessary, since there's only one day a year that I can update it. Quite a few people have been calling it a 'real time' service, which is a bit silly once you actually think about it.

This my site. I would have submitted it here, since I frequent HN way more than Reddit, but I thought /r/WTF was more appropriate. The real-time pane of Google Analytics has been pretty entertaining: http://33c4d819db89

Are there any civilizations you're aware of that, after soil rehabilitation, wouldn't have a local source of food? Except for the poles and extreme elevations, this entire planet is well suited for life.

Is it really necessary to lab test wild (though bred over many years) varieties? It's natural; it worked before we touched it. The biggest risk GMO has is over-confidence in human science.

JSON is cool and hip. More seriously, it has been gaining popularity because of it's direct relationship to built-in structures in most programming languages. For example: XML doesn't have a concept of arrays, but accomplishes sto
