The biggest benefit IMHO would be from making this a pluggable service within the Kafka client and server. Then, you're not tied into ZooKeeper explicitly.

Since reading through the source of the Kafka server (and several client implementations), I've been intrigued by the idea of reimplementation using cooperative multitasking. Kafka clients tend to be very resource intensive. It would

I agree. I just think that the phrase "entirely victimless" is a little strong for most types of drug use.

There is often collateral damage among family (children!), friends, and coworkers of addicts. Complications caused by prenatal drug/alcohol use are also well documented.

I read this recently: Drug wholesalers shipped 780 million prescription painkillers to West Virginia over a six-year period. In a state of 1.84 million residents, the shipments amount to 433 pain pills for every man, woman and child in West

The long time horizon to recover from any disaster is scary. Chernobyl (clearly inadequate safety planning) aside, is there any reason to believe that a Fukushima-type disaster would not be possible (or inevitable)?

I'm loving Win10 with WSL and Mintty on my Lenovo X1 Carbon. A few glitches here and there, but the touch interface is intuitive, battery life is good, and reasonable driver support. I've also been quite happy with Linux VMs mana

The biggest cost gains have probably been realized, especially given the reduction in long term obligations (pension, healthcare, weakened union position). I could see another round or two of automation, but at some point it's not wor

Of course overflow and rounding error must be accounted for in your data type. Exchanges have price boundaries, price quanta, or risk boundaries that would guide this decision. My point is that you would not rule out a data type for tradi

A large swath of the finance industry (especially trading) is concerned with optimal speed, not outlier edge cases. They would rather ignore pathological cases like the Zimbabwean currency than sacrifice performance.

Another approach gives each element a 'data ready' flag (ie the real element type inherits from T). This flag is set by a producer and cleared by the consumer. This would give you an empty/full indication.
