Erm... Joe knows what he is making without Spotify and it isn’t enough to make the deal seem as obviously-bad as the article makes it out to be. Also, I doubt Joe negotiated a $100 million deal without expensive legal & financial advice

In this case, either one would work. A semi-colon separates two independent clauses, while a colon can be used to define or introduce something. I think it is more natural to use a colon (“:”) here because you’re defining what Douglas Adams
