Ask if they can push any live interviews forward, before the coding challenge. Say the reason is that it saves both of us time. It takes longer to read code than to write it. So while it may take me thirty minutes to solve the challenge, it

I've come to believe the most dangerous thing in the world is an expert with a computer model.

You have to be comfortable enough with computers (real computers with keyboards) to be open to using one 8 hours a day. It may sound obvious but it's not obvious to a lot of people especially with the way programming is marketed to you

I like this idea, but I don't like how they target Facebook and YouTube, and not Twitter, Instagram, and Google Search. There seems to be a moral sorting here of FAANG products that is weirdly selective to me and matches what I saw in

Critical thinking is a lot harder than just saying, "Don't believe other people." You have to teach that people may be trustworthy in one area, but not in another. You have to teach when you can take a statement on face val

Show them by example how to be skeptical without accusing people of lying, and mention often the many reasons why people say things that might not be completely true. Also, you need to make sure you yourself don't lie to them. A lot of

That's fair. I read the "Social Cooling" site (as an aside, what would you call sites like this? E-pamphlets seems like a good term to use.) and it immediately made me think of this essay I read years ago: https://

It's just a sloppily-written study. There are spelling and grammar errors all over the place, and it's full of unsubstantiated claims that are hard to take seriously at face value. It's hard for me to even call this a study.

Maybe I'm not always as diplomatic as I could be all the time, but what if I like it that way? I don't have this problem with offending people IRL or even in other online communities. And I'm not interested at all in cutting

Exactly. Great way to put it. Facebook forces you into this politician way of communicating which is a waste of time and just sucks.

Yeah, I tried Twitter too, but so few of my friends use it, it just seemed like a clunkier, angrier version of HN with about half the average IQ points.

This is exactly why I had to get off of Facebook (again). I deactivated my first account 8 years ago, but got back on to re-connect with my old pals and acquaintances from back in the day. For that reason, it was fantastic. After another ye

The most compelling objection (to me) is that when surgeons wear masks, they sneeze inside their masks, then change their masks. When everyday people wear masks, we take our masks off to sneeze, expelling aerosol virus particles into the ai

Thank you. Interesting stuff. This is the only study I've seen that actually presents evidence for masks slowing the spread. The comment section is a worthwhile read, too. I would like to see another study like this that's more re
